Are you called to full-time ministry? Did you go to seminary, but they did not teach you how to start a 501(c)(3). Do you want to make a difference in this world, but don’t know how? The original version of this book was released in 2012, successfully helping many ministries, churches, and non-profit organizations. The tremendous impact of social media and the COVID-19 global pandemic on our world prompted me to make this 2020 revised edition.

In our zeal to glorify God and be used by him, we have a tendency to rely on doing things for God. However, when God chose to use certain individuals in the Bible, it wasn’t because of their efforts or abilities. God was looking at their heart. God wants worshipers who work, not workers who worship. There is a vast difference between the two.

The fullness and vigour of Christianity has been in decline in the life of the West, the application of gospel truths often limited to personal evangelism and our personal prayer life. But this is a radically narrow view of the Christian mission. In the biblical narrative we see a vision for the mission of God’s people that is nothing less than the faithful worship of God in every area of life and culture - in our laws, educational institutions, politics, and arts, to name just a few.

Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove grew up in the Bible Belt in the American South as a faithful church-going Christian. But he gradually came to realize that the gospel his Christianity proclaimed was not good news for everybody. The same Christianity that sang, "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound" also perpetuated racial injustice and white supremacy in the name of Jesus. His Christianity, he discovered, was the religion of the slaveholder. Just as Reconstruction after the Civil War worked to repair a desperately broken society, compromised Christianity requires a spiritual reconstruction.

Here’s my story… a kid from Southern California who got caught in the wave of the Jesus Revolution…married a beautiful girl from Hawaii…moved to Uganda as missionaries…had three sons…made mistakes but found God always merciful…. The purpose of writing my simple story is to encourage your walk with Jesus. I pray we will be a lens for people to see through us to Jesus Christ, who has saved and sent us with Good News that is true and life changing.

The church is the origin, means, and end of missions. Scripture calls on missionaries to start and strengthen churches where new believers—and more missionaries—can grow. But today, many Christians downplay the role of the church in favor of pragmatism and parachurch ministries, weakening the mission's cause.

Many people wonder, “Is Jesus Christ even real?” For 38 years, I wondered too! I called myself a Christian because I wore a cross, prayed to God and attended church regularly. Yet, I lied, gossiped, and judged others without mercy. I misrepresented my God with my behavior, attitude, and words. Such was my life. In my prayers, I asked God to use my life to glorify Him but was ill-prepared for the response. I was arrested and charged with a felony! In deep and dark despair, I turned to Jesus Christ for help. He was there to save me, as I sorrowfully repented for my past sinful behavior.
