In the late 1800s, Cheyenne, a young Indigenous girl, is taken from her family and placed in a government-run residential school. There, she endures harsh punishments, cultural erasure, and profound loss. Despite the cruelty, she finds strength in her heritage-and in a small, locked box she hides beneath the schoolhouse floor, filled with symbols of her identity and hope. Decades later, in 2008, Kyra a curious and imaginative girl, stumbles upon that very box while staying at the same old schoolhouse.
