The books of the Bible were written at different times by different authors over a period of approximately 1,500 years from around 1400 BC through AD 90. The Old Testament was written in biblical Hebrew, excluding the books written during "the Chaldean captivity" such as Daniel and Ezra which were written in biblical Aramaic.

The Apocrypha of the Bible examines the history of the books excluded from the Bible, the characters and events told by the books, and the discoveries that have influenced Biblical studies in the last few centuries.

The Apostolic Fathers are the Christian writers from the first and second centuries who are thought to have been disciples of the Apostles or to have been so directly influenced by the Apostles that their writings are considered echoes of genuine Apostolic teaching.
