A compelling true story, The Bastard Child is the autobiography of the founder of NAVA FUND, Leroy Allen, born and raised in the Chery Hill section of South Baltimore. Growing up on the streets and in a culture of survival, his lifestyle was extremely dysfunctional and included lots of adversity. Loved by a mother and fiercely protected only she lacked skills and resources to support the family.

The purpose for which I wrote the following poem(s) is because they assisted me in expressing the feelings, thoughts, and emotions which I was having at the time while I walked through a relatively challenging period of my life. I hope to inspire other young Black males to also express their thoughts, talk about their feelings, and to hopefully try to make the world a better place. Allow yourself as the listener to think of your own perspective regarding these topics, issues, and subject matters.

On the February night her husband left, Myrna Smith felt the old demons of abandonment stir her soul. In God and Other Men, she takes us on an earnest but circuitous walk toward enlightenment, from adventures at a Japanese zendo and with Indian saints, to a backwoods medium and a new lover. Eventually she glimpses the holy grail of self-acceptance, but not at all in the way she had expected.

My purpose is to encourage you to study the Scriptures for yourself, for clarity and mental freedom, for spiritual discernment and wisdom. Scriptures may not use modern terms such as “self-development”, “mental wellness”, and “emotional freedom”, but that is exactly what they can be used for.

Years ago, I had met with Christ in a Near Death Experience. He had shared with me the secret to our existence on earth. "It is the goal of human existence," He had said, "to go from selfishness to selflessness." That directive has remained with me since that time and this book is the result of further out-of-body travels wherein He came to me and directed me to gather those sacred texts that show us how to accomplish this vital task of our human existence.
