On the Genealogy of Morality (The Genealogy of Morals) is an 1887 book by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. It consists of a preface and three interrelated essays that expand and follow through on concepts Nietzsche sketched out in Beyond Good and Evil. Based on decades of inquiry into cases of student abuse in educational systems, the work reveals that sexual abuse of children in US K–12 schools is more prevalent than we'd like to believe. Examining the root causes and contexts, Shakeshaft concludes that school cultures and institutional structures are often complicit in cases of sexual misconduct.

In this thought-provoking book, Tobias Leenaert leaves well-trodden animal advocacy paths and takes a fresh look at the strategies, objectives, and communication of the vegan and animal rights movement. He argues that, given our present situation, with entire societies dependent on using animals, we need a very pragmatic approach. How to Create a Vegan World contains many valuable ideas and insights for both budding advocates for animals and seasoned activists, organizational leaders, and even entrepreneurs.

In Districts That Succeed, long-time education writer Karin Chenoweth turns her attention from effective schools to effective districts. Leveraging new, cutting-edge national research on district performance as well as in-depth reporting, Chenoweth profiles five districts that have successfully broken the correlation between race, poverty, and achievement.

In Sanctuary School, Chandler Patton Miranda highlights the many ways that K–12 schools can provide safe educational spaces and relevant, responsive resources for immigrant students. Miranda prompts educators to think beyond the baseline definition of sanctuary schools as protective institutions that practice legally supported noncooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities. She envisions a whole-school approach to sanctuary that empowers marginalized students via radical welcoming and innovation.
