Leo Tolstoy began his trilogy Childhood, Boyhood, and Youth in his early twenties. Although he would in his old age famously dismiss it as an ‘awkward mixture of fact and fiction’, generations of readers and listeners have not agreed, finding the series to be a charming and insightful portrait of inner growth against the background of a world limned with extraordinary clarity, grace and color.

Anna Karenina is a novel by the Russian author Leo Tolstoy, first published in book form in 1878. Many writers consider Anna Karenina the greatest work of literature ever, and Tolstoy himself called it his first true novel. It was initially released in serial installments from 1873 to 1877 in the periodical The Russian Messenger. A complex novel in eight parts, with more than a dozen major characters, it is spread over more than 800 pages (depending on the translation and publisher), typically contained in two volumes.

В основу сюжета положен романтический топос страстной любви разочарованного, мятежного героя (пленного русского офицера) к детям природы, не испорченным цивилизацией (их представляет прекрасная черкешенка). Эта лирическая тема подана на эпическом фоне: красоты безбрежного Кавказа, экзотической жизни горцев, Кавказская война.

Дубровский - наиболее известный разбойничий роман на русском языке, необработанное для печати (и неоконченное) произведение А. С. Пушкина (1799–1837). Повествует о любви Владимира Дубровского к Марии Троекуровой — потомков двух враждующих помещичьих семейств. Считается, что идея для романа возникла у поэта после того, как его приятель Павел Нащокин рассказал ему историю некоего помещика Островского.

War and Peace is a literary work mixed with chapters on history and philosophy by the Russian author Leo Tolstoy. It was first published serially, then published in its entirety in 1869. It is regarded as one of Tolstoy's finest literary achievements and remains an internationally praised classic of world literature.

It's a touching tale of a young man who finds himself without shelter or food on a cold Autumn Night in Moscow. The strong opening lines of the narrator set the stage nicely: "Once in the autumn I happened to be in a very unpleasant and inconvenient position. In the town where I had just arrived and where I knew not a soul, I found myself without a farthing in my pocket and without a night's lodging." Scavenging for something to eat around the "steamship wharves," he encounters another poor wretch, the young woman, Natasha, in similar circumstance if for different reasons.
