Cette astrophysicienne est spécialiste de la dynamique des galaxies et, non contente de les observer, elle réalise de spectaculaires simulations numériques de leur formation, de leur croissance, de leurs rencontres. Cela aide à comprendre l'origine de leurs formes, variées et souvent surprenantes. Le décodage des différentes étapes de leur évolution montre que les trous noirs supermassifs, qui occupent les centres de ces galaxies, y jouent un rôle majeur. Il est donc indispensable de mieux les comprendre.
