The Cid, an Arab nickname meaning "the Lord", has been called the "most famous Spaniard of all time". Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar was a Castillan military and political leader in medieval Spain. He was an outstanding general, first leading the Spanish against the Moors in victorious battles, then working as a mercenary-general for whoever would require a war won. He eventually captured the city of Valencia, keeping it to himself and ruling it until his death. His remarkable military ability made him the legendary national hero of Spain. He remains an idolized figure in Spain, and his name has been immortalized in every form of story.

It has been several decades now since Francisco Franco’s passing in 1975, and yet his legacy still seems very much in the air. Depending on who you talk to, Franco was a fascist and a peacemaker, a destroyer and a savior, an idiot and a genius. Even after all this time, opinions of just who Franco was and how he contributed to modern civilization are up for open debate.

Este conflicto armado ocurrido entre 1936 y 1939 es uno de los enfrentamientos bélicos más importantes del siglo XX ya que significó la lucha entre facciones radicalmente opuestas: por un lado, el bando nacional fascista de derecha que representaba a la clase alta y por otro lado, el bando republicano rojo de izquierda apoyado por el movimiento obrero. Este dramático y destructivo hecho histórico marcaría el destino de España bajo el poder del dictador Francisco Franco.
