"Le Lévitique" est le troisième des cinq livres de la Torah (Pentateuque). Il doit son nom au terme "lévite", prêtre hébreu issu de la tribu de Lévi. Il parle des devoirs sacerdotaux en Israël. Il met l'accent sur la sainteté de Dieu et le code selon lequel son peuple pouvait vivre pour devenir saint. Son but est d'enseigner les préceptes moraux et les rituels religieux de la loi de Moïse. Le livre comprend 27 chapitres, qui relatent l'exposé à Moïse de lois et de rites. Le livre a vraisemblablement pris forme au ve siècle av. J.-C., durant l'époque perse.

"Le 1er livre des Maccabées" relate la révolte des Maccabées depuis le déclenchement de la révolte en Judée contre les souverains séleucides et jusqu'au règne de Jean Hyrcan. Il couvre une période d'environ 40 ans entre 175 et 135 av. J.-C. La révolte des Maccabées est à la fois une révolte des Juifs de Judée contre les Séleucides et un conflit interne au peuple juif opposant les traditionalistes aux Juifs hellénisants. Elle tire son nom de la famille des Maccabées, dont Mattathias et ses fils Judas et Simon.

"Le Livre de la Sagesse" (appelé en grec "Sagesse de Salomon") est un livre de l'Ancien Testament. "Le Livre de la Sagesse" cherche à répondre au défi de la sagesse païenne (notamment, la philosophie) par rapport à la Révélation divine.
