"Le Livre de la Sagesse" (appelé en grec "Sagesse de Salomon") est un livre de l'Ancien Testament. "Le Livre de la Sagesse" cherche à répondre au défi de la sagesse païenne (notamment, la philosophie) par rapport à la Révélation divine. On y trouve notamment, reprises de la philosophie grecque, les quatre vertus cardinales : "Aime-t-on la rectitude ? Les vertus sont les fruits de ses travaux, car elle enseigne tempérance et prudence, justice et force."

"Le Deutéronome" est le cinquième livre de l'Ancien Testament. Il contient le récit des derniers discours de Moïse aux Israélites et le récit de sa mort, avant qu'ils n'entrent au pays de Canaan, sur l'autre rive du Jourdain. Il forme un second code de lois, après celui de l'Exode, d'où son titre de Deutéronome (seconde loi).
