"Le 1er livre des Rois" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament classé parmi "Les livres des Prophètes" dans le judaïsme et le christianisme. Avec "Le 2e livre des Rois" il constituait à l'origine un ensemble, "Le livre des Rois" qui a été divisé à l'époque de la Septante. "Les deux livres des Rois" racontent l'histoire d'Israël depuis la rébellion d'Adonias (Adonija), quatrième fils du roi David (vers 1015 av. J.-C.) jusqu'à la captivité finale de Juda (vers 586 av. J.-C.).

"Le 2e livre de Samuel" est un livre historique de l'Ancien Testament chrétien. Il est entièrement consacré au règne de David, qui apparaît déjà dans "Le 1er livre". David unifie les tribus d'Israël et choisit Jérusalem pour y déposer l'Arche d'alliance. L'épisode de David et Bethsabée figure au chapitre 11. Dans certaines bibles et traditions, "Les livres de Samuel" sont regroupés en un seul. Dans d'autres, ils constituent deux livres séparés, généralement désignés sous la forme I Samuel et II Samuel.

"Le Deutéronome" est le cinquième livre de l'Ancien Testament. Il contient le récit des derniers discours de Moïse aux Israélites et le récit de sa mort, avant qu'ils n'entrent au pays de Canaan, sur l'autre rive du Jourdain. Il forme un second code de lois, après celui de l'Exode, d'où son titre de Deutéronome (seconde loi). Il retrace d'autre part différents événements vécus par les Israélites depuis leur sortie d'Égypte et déjà relatés dans les trois livres précédents du Pentateuque, (Exode, Lévitique et Nombres).

"Le Lévitique" est le troisième des cinq livres de la Torah (Pentateuque). Il doit son nom au terme "lévite", prêtre hébreu issu de la tribu de Lévi. Il parle des devoirs sacerdotaux en Israël. Il met l'accent sur la sainteté de Dieu et le code selon lequel son peuple pouvait vivre pour devenir saint. Son but est d'enseigner les préceptes moraux et les rituels religieux de la loi de Moïse. Le livre comprend 27 chapitres, qui relatent l'exposé à Moïse de lois et de rites. Le livre a vraisemblablement pris forme au ve siècle av. J.-C., durant l'époque perse.
