The Stranger (1946), the third film directed by the legendary Orson Welles, is a film noir thriller of the highest order. In the wake of World War II, Mr. Wilson, an official with the Allied War Crimes Commission (played by the legendary Edward G. Robinson), is on the trail of Franz Kindler, an escaped Nazi who was the chief architect of the regime’s mass genocide. Wilson allows a concentration camp commandant, Conrad Meinike, to escape in the hope that he will lead him to the elusive Kindler.

Frederich and Rebekkah Holt are twenty-something twins who work together making bondage films in Hollywood. Rebekkah, consumed by her obsessions with sadomasochism and mass psychology, has big plans for the two of them, and with their studio recently swallowed up by an entertainment conglomerate they now have more freedom and resources to work with than ever before. But when Rebekkah is urgently summoned to their new owner’s corporate headquarters in New York, Frederich finds himself alone in Rome, wrangling Italian models and shooting content on an endless series of meaningless assignments.
