Torsdag den 18. maj 2000 klokken 23.33 indgik der en anmeldelse til alarmcentralen i Odense fra en mand, der ønskede at anmelde, at han troede, at der lå en død mand på gulvet i en villa i Korup, Odense NV. Anmelderen ringede fra et hus, hvor han havde henvendt sig for at låne en telefon. Huset lå cirka en kilometer fra gerningsstedet og indeholdt den lokale cykelforretning.
