Standing in history like a milestone marking the boundary between one era and the next, the Potsdam Conference brought together the leaders of the three major Allied powers - the United States, the Soviet Union, and the United Kingdom - for the last time at the end of World War II and at the threshold of the Cold War. A follow up to the Yalta Conference just five months earlier, Potsdam attempted to work out the contours of the postwar world.

A former Legionnaire had been working as an investigative journalist in Paris. He meets a mysterious American, of Jewish and Latino descent, by chance when the latter sails into a quiet fishing village nestled in a remote Andalusian bay in Spain. The yachtsman, also a former French Foreign Legionnaire, explained that he had been working in private security, and he tells a story that dates back to the dark days of Nazi Germany and it at first seems to be fictitious. However, the journalist began to question what he had been told.

At the close of World War I, Hitler was an impoverished young artist who scrapped by through selling souvenir paintings, but within a few years, his powerful oratory brought him to the forefront of the Nazi party in Munich and helped make the party much more popular. A smattering of followers in the hundreds quickly became a party of thousands. At the head of it all was a man whose fiery orations denounced Jews, communists, and other "traitors" for bringing upon the German nation the Treaty of Versailles, which had led to hyperinflation and a wrecked economy.
