Publisher's Summary

Sam Becker loves—or, okay, likes—his job. Sure, managing a bed-and-bath retailer isn't exactly glamorous, but it's good work, and he gets on well with the band of misfits who keep the store running. He could see himself being content here for the long haul. Too bad, then, that the owner is an infuriating git.

Jonathan Forest should never have hired Sam. It was a sentimental decision, and Jonathan didn't get where he is by following his heart. Determined to set things right, Jonathan orders Sam down to London for a difficult talk…only for a panicking Sam to trip, bump his head, and maybe accidentally imply he doesn't remember anything?

Faking amnesia seemed like a good idea when Sam was afraid he was getting sacked, but now he has to deal with the reality of Jonathan's guilt—as well as the unsettling fact that his surly boss might have a softer side to him. There's an unexpected freedom in getting a second shot at a first impression…but as Sam and Jonathan grow closer, can Sam really bring himself to tell the truth, or will their future be built entirely on one impulsive lie?

so stinkin' cute

about halfway through i knew i was definitely going to be re-reading this book in the future. sam and jonathan's banter is funny and natural, and their clumsy journey into romance is both tender and heartwarming. will watt's performance is also excellent. he brings every character to life so effortlessly, nailing every comedic moment and soft, aching note. i'm already a big fan of alexis hall's mastery for dialogue that feels real and their ability to give voice to every character on the page, even the supporting cast. they all feel like real people, making the story and world already so lived in from the first introduction. all in all this is just a solid, cute romcom that happens to take place over christmas and makes me feel so cosy. i loved it.

lighthearted

Not his strongest novel, but an enjoyable read with all the tropes (sunshine and grumpy personalities, forced proximity, enemies to lovers. I did expect “there’s only one bed as it was almost there, but foiled by boss/employee sensibilities …). & OMG the chicken stuffing scene ... hilarious.

Narration was superb.

Re-read within a month!

I downloaded and read 10 Things the day it was released in October, and knew then I would have to revisit Sam, Johnathan and Gollum for Christmas. The story is adorable, and I love the slow burn romance between Sam and Johnathan. Will Watt’s narration is sublime, and it feels like an old friend is telling you the story.
