Story
Power has an appearance and appearance has power. Ideally those two would line up together and the world would be full of good, masculine men who dress and look like good masculine men. But all too often, reality is something different. There are good men and strong leaders out there who dress and look like children or bums. There are awful, lazy men in the world who dress in a way that hides their vices from those around them and makes them appear better than they truly are. In an attempt to correct for these disparities, our current culture tries to rob both appearance of its power and power of its appearance - to say that the way a person dresses or looks doesn’t - or at least shouldn’t matter.

In The Fiat Standard, world-renowned economist Saifedean Ammous applies his unique analytical lens to the fiat monetary system, explaining it as a feat of engineering and technology just as he did for bitcoin in his global best seller The Bitcoin Standard. This time, Ammous delves into the world's earlier shift from the gold standard to today's system of government-backed fiat money—outlining the fiat standard's purposes and failures; deriving the wider economic, political, and social implications of its use; and examining how bitcoin will affect it over time.

This is not fiction. These men really exist. They live together in houses known as Projects. And Neil Strauss, the best-selling author, spent two years living among them, using the pseudonym Style to protect his real-life identity. Story
Human beings are primates, and primates are political animals. Our brains, therefore, are designed not just to hunt and gather but also to help us get ahead socially, often via deception and self-deception. But while we may be self-interested schemers, we benefit by pretending otherwise. The less we know about our own ugly motives, the better - and thus, we don't like to talk, or even think, about the extent of our selfishness. This is "the elephant in the brain".

Good Grief Charlie Brown.
A captivating and sometimes off-putting jaunt into the world of sexual psychology. As a man, I can say this should be required reading for anyone in a long-term relationship.
The two joke phrases, "show me a married woman and I'll show you a guy tired of sleeping with her" and "there are only two kinds of women; those who cheat, and really good liars" are now no longer just a funny anecdotal quibs but brutal truths.
good luck out there everyone, we're all going to need it.

Pseudoscience at its worst
Men are simpleminded creatures who just want to "aim and fire" at a anything that moves, and women are always analyzing things with their inner detective, craving romance and real commitment. I have now spared you a credit much better spend somewhere else. From analyzing a whole lot of porn, Internet searches, and picking and choosing research, these blokes decided that they are actually capable of making up nonsense theories based on crack pot ideas of how it might have been to be a caveman. Go back and study some actual biological anthropology, then talk to some actual scientists about how science works, then rewrite it please. The idea is really good. But it's a little like putting on green glasses, and then proclaiming the world green.

Worst book I have purchased to date.
This book was not worth the time I spent listening to it! I must admit that I purchased the book based off the title. That is the worst mistake I have ever made! If you want to listen to a book about type of internet porn people like to view then this book is for you.

Wow...what I just learned about myself
I've always been a great wingman, a great opener for single friends, and even help friends that didn't know they were gay...find themselves. I just didn't know what I was doing... I was a Natural. I've been drawn to this study most recently because of tests I'd been performing for the last few years in chat rooms. If used properly and without abuse... This book holds the statistical advantage for understanding the bindings people have with their so called "free will"... We know less about who and what we are than we realize.

Interesting, Except no insights on Lesbians?! wtf?
This book covered a lot of interesting and indepth social and sexual ground, but utterly forgot to explore or explain anything about homosexual females. Straight males and females, as well as gay men all got their time in the Sun, but I was strangely surprised that lesbians were utterly absent from this immense experiment. Pretty good overall. Would recommend to anyone struggling to understand their sexuality or the sexuality of others.

My-Oh-My!
Any additional comments?
I don't know if all the theories presented in this book are true but the ride getting to them was sure interesting! Packed full of information about things that have perplexed me for years. And I liked that the authors paid as much attention to information concerning "normal" pornography as well as "abnormal" tastes. Well rounded. If the explosion of internet porn has ever perplexed you or you have asked yourself, "Why would anyone want to look at that?" this is the book for you.

Interesting Subject
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
sure, if someone is interested in learning about how the female and male brains view sex and pornography
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
the voice was monotone and a little boring at times, but given the subject matter it probably was the right choice.

Take ir for what it is: a Conversation starter
The info in the book is good enough to elicit conversations about sexuality and desire. Its strength comes from the fact that the data was provided by websites people interact with while having a sense of privacy, which means they’re not “covering” themselves and so the data shows aspects of human sexual interests usually not discussed publicly.
The downside of all this is it’s just observation and when it tries to back the data up with a specialist’s comment or so it doesn’t mention scientific studies or meta analysis of any kind. It even quotes a blogger at some point. None of this is actually scientific proof of what the book presents.
Again, it’s a good conversation starter, maybe after reading it or while reading it people can be more open to talk about what makes them feel desire or attraction.
The way it closes is basically recognizing the fact that desire is sexuality mediated by the imagination, which ultimately sounded as a safety measure in case someone didn’t agree with the rest of the book.
