Publisher's Summary

Audible Studios presents a brand new recording of Charles Dickens' timeless seasonal story A Christmas Carol, performed by Hugh Grant.

First published in 1843, it tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and unpleasant man who dislikes people generally and Christmas especially.

One Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come and given a glimpse of the many homes and lives which Scrooge has touched in his wretched life to date. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

Perfectly unexpected and unexpectedly perfect

My son and I listened to this in the car for our long and boring drive along frozen Canadian snowscapes. I had no expectations of a Hugh Grant rendition of A Christmas Carol but it was just right. The pacing and clarity was perfect, he did different voices but not in an over-the-top way. It was simple, not an overproduced radio drama, and entertaining enough to be a perfect introduction to A Christmas Carol for my tween son, who loved it. I couldn't help but keep thinking of scenes from the 1951 Alistair Sim film, and that was a good thing. A joyous discovery, not a fragment of underdone potato. Thank you, Hugh Grant and production team.

Loved it! Brilliantly narrated.

Hugh Grant did justice to this wonderful story. This story was UNabridged (not sure why other reviewers said it was abridged. It's a short story that takes roughly 3 hours to narrated looking at other narrations of this story). Hugh provided perfect balance of humour and earnest acting to make this story come alive. It was not over the top or silly. I hope Hugh narrates more books in the future. His narration reminded me of Alistair Sim's 1951 movie. I definitely recommend to book to anyone and it will be one I'll listen to often. It was such a treat to listen to this after a rough year. Thank you!

Hugh Grants voice is dreamy

Hugh Grant is phenomenal. His impressions of all the characters- both men and women was faultless. I enjoyed every moment and will make this book a tradition. He’s very soothing to listen to.

pretty close to perfect

Excellent story and writing (of course, Dickens). Hugh Grant's reading is awesome. Timely, too, in a year when we're all considering our priorities.

honestly it is wonderful, but ...

If you want a more manic and enthused performance check out the version narrated by Tim Curry. However, Hugh Grant does a marvellous job of Dickens prose. Enjoy!

A Reinvigorated Classic!

Dickens' Christmas Carol is a classic if there ever was one. One of the most adapted stories of the last century in various mediums. This performance by Hugh Grant was excellent and breathed new life into this 177-year old novella. It made for a perfect New Year's Eve one-sitting listen.

The Eternal Christmas Story

I love this story! The narrator did an awesome job! I'm glad I listened to the eternal Christmas story that reminds us what the Spirit of the season is all about and the reason that Jesus was born - to save us from ourselves and our attitudes.

Christmas Classic Given New Life

I absolutely love the life that Hugh Grant breathes into this story. Read this in one sitting Christmas Day while working on things around the house. This is a reading of the story I can see myself returning to every year.

HUGH GRANT MADE THIS FANTASTIC!

I have read or heard the Christmas carol so many times I don't believe I could count them. Patrick Stewart did a stellar job, and so have many other really talented narrator's but I have to say, Hugh Grant made this story human and touchable and so uplifting and so much fun to listen to that from now on, he is my favorite bringer of Dickens at Christmas!

Exceptional Performance

Hugh Grant provides a masterful performance of this Christmas classic. No matter how many times and how many film/TV versions you have seen, there are humorous and moving nuances to the written text that do not come through in even the finest productions. I recommend this Audible production of the Dickens’ novel unreservedly.

AMAZING PERFORMANCE!

Truly, I know this story like the back of my hand, and Hugh Grant's performance brought me to tears no less than 12 times. Unbelievable. I dare you to be unaffected by it, even if you're Scrooge himself!
