Publisher's Summary

"Every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding," says Ebenezer Scrooge. Mean old Scrooge despises Christmas until Christmas Eve, when a haunted voice from the past changes his life: overnight! Many know this story but few have experienced the true marvel of the tale.

still my favorite

I've listened to several versions over the years and this remains my favorite. the voice actor even gives the characters their own voices.

Excellent reading!

This is such a wonderful story. If you haven't read any classics I would suggest starting here. Most know this story well so its easy to follow, but you get so much out of hearing how Dickens wrote it. The narrator did such a fantastic job! one of the best narrators ive heard.

Great Version

I download a reading of this story every year (librivox.com has a dozen for free) as a personal listening tradition. Typically, the quality is poor, but the story is worth putting up with it.. This interpretation of the unbeatable classic Dickens tale, however, is incredible. This "Blackstone" version has *outstanding* production values.. and a few extended scenes not present in most iterations. It consequently almost feels "new".

Reader Simon Prebble exhibits voice-acting that's a little flat at times, but his diction, timbre, cadence, and pacing are unsurpassed. In addition, Prebble is so obviously invested in the story that the recording sounds like a labor of love (I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he did this Blackstone Audio Inc. project for free).

I rate this reading of a genuine Christmas Classic 9.5 stars out of 10. It belongs in your library.

[NOTE: Prebble's portrayal of a heartbroken Bob Cratchett ("My child.. my little child..") is the best that I have ever heard]
