2016 Audie Award Finalist for Business/Personal Development

From Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer and acclaimed business journalist Charles Fishman comes a brilliantly entertaining peek into the weekly "curiosity conversations" that have inspired Grazer to create some of America's favorite and iconic movies and television shows - from 24 to A Beautiful Mind

For decades film and TV producer Brian Grazer has scheduled a weekly "curiosity conversation" with an accomplished stranger. From scientists to spies and adventurers to business leaders, Grazer has met with anyone willing to answer his questions for a few hours. These informal discussions sparked the creative inspiration behind many of Grazer's movies and TV shows, including Splash, 24, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Arrested Development, 8 Mile, J. Edgar, and many others.

A Curious Mind is a brilliantly entertaining, fascinating, and inspiring homage to the power of inquisitiveness and the ways in which it deepens and improves us. Whether you're looking to improve your management style at work or you want to become a better romantic partner, this audiobook - and its lessons on the power of curiosity - can change your life.

.

I was disappointed at first that Brian Grazer didn't narrate his own book. However he picked an amazing narrator. I enjoyed every moment of the book. Thank you. 🙏

Me,Me,and Me

75% bragging and 30% ideas....a waste of time and money. Disappointed a professional with a good idea ,loads of experience and information to waste it on beating his chest !

The content is just not that good

What would have made A Curious Mind better?

Less description of interviewed characters and talk about the advantages of curiosity. More personal anecdotes from the interviewees and their success secrets.

Would you ever listen to anything by the authors again?

No

What does Norbert Leo Butz bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

You can listen to it while driving! Why else would anyone ever use audiobooks.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yeah. It still gave a sneak peek into lives of some very successful people.

Any additional comments?

One thing I generally hate about books is how long they make simple concepts. I could probably summarize 100 pages of this book into "Curiosity is good," and that's probably all I will remember 1 month from now. So overall, I don't recommend this title and I kinda want a refund.....

The big takeaways are...

The big takeaway is that Brian produced a movie called Splash, a movie called A Beautiful Mind, a TV show called 24, a movie called Apollo 13, etc ad naseum. Also, he likes to interview important, interesting people -- and his favorite word is "curiosity". The best bit for me was briefly hearing about 70's era Hollywood and the mogul Lew Wasserman. Finally, there's seemingly an entire chapter devoted to his "wild and crazy" gelled hairstyle...which should tell you all you need to know.

Excellent Narration! Great insights.

What did you love best about A Curious Mind?

Good to listen to, thanks to the excellent narration. Well worth the time. What really impressed me was the narration given it was not the author reading the book. I typically only get books read by authors since they seem to know where to place the emphasis ect given how deeply they understand the book and or subject matter. Norbert did a fantastic job of faithfully delivering this great book that Brian Grazer and Charles Fisherman wrote.

The book made me realize how intensely curious I am and how it something to feel confident and good about. Brian had many great messages, the one regarding his management style I thought was great. He clearly must be a great listener and yet made no mention of that skill which is a shame since that skill would be critical in satisfying his curiosity.

Would you recommend A Curious Mind to your friends? Why or why not?

Absolutely, Brian shines a flood light on curiosity, a key principle to learning and existence that I have not seen examined in so much depth.

What about Norbert Leo Butz’s performance did you like?

Outstanding and best I have heard, Norbert was all over the content of the book and delivered it perfectly. I would be surprised if Brian or Charles could have done a better job. I typically don't buy Audible books that are not narrated by the author.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from A Curious Mind?

Celebrate your curiosity.

Curiosity is a great management tool, I don't like people who have big egos or beat their chests or show their insecurities in countless other ways. Brian's management style of asking questions is one that I will consciously adopt. It's subtle and incredibly powerful (if your intentions are right).

Any additional comments?

I felt the word curious was a little overused but then again, given the title of the book I should maybe realign my expectations ;-)

Repetitive

I've never heard the word "curious" repeated so many times. It seemed as if the word was in every sentence. My mind drifted away from this audible book on more than a few occasions. Dull.

If you like John Waters don't buy this book!

This guy has produced a bunch of mediocre movies with box office success. I love his emphasis on curiosity, but ultimately he has substandard taste and shocks me of vanilla. He uses the fact that one of his biggest failures was producing John Waters movie Cry-Baby. He says he shouldn't have let his curiosity get the better of him and should have done more research on John Waters. I will admit that Cry-Baby was a box office failure, but in terms of what it left artistically Mr Grazer cannot touch. Keep making your Grinch and Apollo 13's, but please stop trying to tell people about how to have good taste.

Curiosity is about to get cool

This book was engaging all the way through. The premise is that curiosity can drive a successful life in work, relationships, innovation and connections. I bet will will see more on this topic. Book much more relaxed and interesting than many of the ivy league social psychologists that I read.

Good to be curious

If you had dinner with Brian Grazer, this book would capture that conversation about who he is, his experience in the entertainment industry, and his advice for success. The advice isn't earth-shattering -- be curious, ask questions, and pay attention to the answers. He methodically sought out to have curious conversations with a diverse group of people (like Fidel Castro, Michael Jackson, Jonas Salk, Isaac Asimov, and Andy Warhol). He wanted to meet interesting people and get a sense of who they are. Most often, they weren't as he expected (not the flat persona portrayed in the public). For example, Brian Grazer didn't think that Michael Jackson was a weird person after meeting him. There was much more depth than that, he was someone who struggled with handling fame. These curious conversations exposed him to other fields and sparked ideas and inspirations, which further fueled more curious questions and dialogues.
