Publisher's Summary

New York City socialite and perpetual hot mess Portia Hobbs is tired of disappointing her family, friends, and - most importantly - herself. An apprenticeship with a struggling swordmaker in Scotland is a chance to use her expertise and discover what she's capable of. And it turns out that she excels at aggravating her gruff silver-fox boss...when she's not having inappropriate fantasies about his sexy Scottish burr.

Tavish McKenzie doesn't need a rich, spoiled American telling him how to run his armory...even if she is infuriatingly good at it. Tav tries to rebuff his apprentice - and his attraction to her - but when Portia accidentally discovers that he's the secret son of a duke, rough-around-the-edges Tav becomes her newest makeover project.

Forging metal into weapons and armor is one thing, but when desire burns out of control and the media spotlight gets too hot to bear, can a commoner turned duke and his posh apprentice find lasting love?

Needed a different narrator

I enjoyed Karen Chilton's narration of A Princess in Theory, but was extremely disappointed in her narration of this, because the "Scottish" accents were so distracting they really took me out of the story. It was so disappointing.

I might have enjoyed the story more if I hadn't been so taken out of it by the accents, but as it was....very disappointing.

Good story, bad accents

Karen Chilton was great with the first book, but her “Scottish” accent leaves much to be desired. It bounces around between Irish and thesoloian and gets distracting.

Not as good as first in series

The story was interesting and different, but it dragged on in several spots. It could’ve used a tighter edit. Worst of all, the narrator botched the accents. I generally like Karen Chilton but she was way out of her depths here. She either needed a dialect coach or someone else for the Scottish voices.

Love, Royalty, and Mystery

I really enjoyed this story. The fairytale excitement yet plausibility made it fun to hear. The narration was enjoyable too although at times it lacked accent authenticity. I would recommend if you are looking for a good time and a smile.

good story wrong accent

i enjoyed the story, though i like the first one better. my biggest issue was the accent, it sounded more jamaican then Scottish which throws off the story a bit. Still plan to get the third book though!!
