About this listen
Stephen "Steve-O" Glover—social media icon, comedy-touring stalwart, and star of Jackass—delivers a hilarious and practical guide to recovery, relationships, career, and how to keep thriving long after you should be dead.
Steve-O is best known for his wildly dangerous, foolish, painful, embarrassing, and sometimes death-defying stunts. At age 48, however, he faces his greatest challenge yet: getting older. A Hard Kick in the Nuts: What I’ve Learned from a Lifetime of Terrible Decisions is a captivating exploration of life and how to live it by an individual who has already lived way more than a lifetime’s worth of extreme experiences. Steve-O grapples with the right balance between maturity and staying true to yourself, not repeating your “greatest hits,” maintaining sobriety and a healthy regimen, avoiding selfishness, and finding the right partner for life.
Having built a gargantuan and loyal social media following while establishing a successful stand-up career—all after a couple of decades of dubious behavior—Steve-O is proof that anyone can find meaning and fulfillment in life, no matter what path they choose. Packed with self-deprecating wit and gruelingly earned wisdom, A Hard Kick in the Nuts will reverberate with listeners everywhere who have lived a lot (sometimes too much) and are now wondering how to approach the years to come. Or maybe just need some good motivation to get out of bed tomorrow. One of many tips: Be your own harshest critic, then cut yourself a break, and enjoy this book.

What story begins in a bedroom in suburban New Jersey in the early '60s, unfolds on some of the country's largest stages, and then ranges across the globe, demonstrating over and over again how rock and roll has the power to change the world for the better? This story. The first true heartbeat of Unrequited Infatuations is the moment when Stevie Van Zandt trades in his devotion to the Baptist religion for an obsession with rock and roll.

Story
You Can’t Be Serious is a series of funny, consequential, awkward, and ridiculous stories from Kal Penn’s idiosyncratic life. It’s about being the grandson of Gandhian freedom fighters, and the son of immigrant parents: people who came to this country with very little and went very far—and whose vision of the American dream probably never included their son sliding off an oiled-up naked woman in the raunchy Ryan Reynolds movie Van Wilder…or getting a phone call from Air Force One as Kal flew with the country’s first Black president.

Story
A mythic figure in fighting and a legendary member of the “first family of martial arts,” Rickson Gracie is considered the godfather of what we recognize today as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Although Rickson’s three decades of total dominance in Jiu Jitsu is astounding, even more astounding is the serenity and spiritual depth of his approach to combat. For Rickson, Jiu Jitsu is a metaphor for life. Some consider Jiu Jitsu a martial art, others consider it a sport, but to Gracie, it is a philosophical system he uses to face and evaluate life’s challenges and maintain happiness and mental balance.

One of our best-loved actors, Michael Caine has starred in over 100 films in his six-decade career, spanning classic movies like Alfie, Zulu, and The Italian Job (the inspiration for the book title) to playing Alfred opposite Christian Bale's Batman in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster Dark Knight trilogy. Caine has excelled in every kind of role - with a skill that's made it look easy. As he says, "Small parts can lead to big things. Good book - audio quality could be better
It’s what you expect from a Steve-O book in terms of story and language - in all the best ways - but the audio throughout sounds like it was recorded with a low quality mic which doesn’t help his already raspy and strained voice.

An honest and self-reflective personal journey.
I didn't know Steve had written other books, this was my first of his. Wonderfully surprising to hear about his journey. I'm not sure what I expected, other than funny stories to keep me entertained as I drove. But it was so much more. Steve is able to see himself and his actions clearly, past and present. And he seems to have the faith in himself and humility to engage in real introspection and honesty. I guess I've found new respect for a man that I've seen do some very stupid things.
Recommended for any type of reader with an open mind and heart.

Entertaining and Inspiring
Steve-O is a man of great charisma and charm, despite his well-publicized shortcomings. In fact, his previous notoriety for wild antics makes his wisdom all the more remarkable. He is so level-headed and down to Earth, and he is painfully honest about things that most people would refuse to talk about.
This book is a nice blend of wild stories of his sordid past and deep-dives into his personal philosophy, and I found it both entertaining and inspiring. The man has done enough living for 10 lifetimes and 20 years ago nobody in their right mind would have taken any sort of advice from such a human train wreck, but going through so much and surviving it is no small feat. I really loved his tidbits of wisdom, his reflections on his past mistakes and his hilarious takes on life in general, but I was also really inspired by his big heart and strong moral compass. I also really enjoyed his narration and the book felt a lot like a long, intimate conversation. This was definitely worth a credit and was the best thing I have listened to recently after a few duds.
