Publisher's Summary

The number-one New York Times best seller, now with a new preface!

In his audiobook, A Higher Loyalty, former FBI director James Comey shares his never-before-told experiences from some of the highest stakes situations of his career in the past two decades of American government, exploring what good, ethical leadership looks like and how it drives sound decisions. His journey provides an unprecedented entry into the corridors of power and a remarkable lesson in what makes an effective leader.

Mr. Comey served as director of the FBI from 2013 to 2017, appointed to the post by President Barack Obama. He previously served as US attorney for the Southern District of New York and the US deputy attorney general in the administration of President George W. Bush. From prosecuting the mafia and Martha Stewart to helping change the Bush administration's policies on torture and electronic surveillance and overseeing the Hillary Clinton email investigation as well as ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, Comey has been involved in some of the most consequential cases and policies of recent history.

What the critics say

"Comey's conversational tone instantly connects with the listener, and hearing him deliver the book's highly charged contents in his own voice brings authenticity and immediacy to the presentation.... This greatly anticipated, revelatory memoir needs to be heard." (AudioFile)

"It was essential that Comey himself narrate this book, not only because his absence would have distracted listeners familiar with his voice but also because only the author could credibly convey the range of raw emotions emanating from the experiences he shares from this most eventful of lives." Absolute must for aspiring leaders.

I came into this book with hints of scrutiny and looming doubt. I figured Comey was just trying to capitalize on a less than pleasant situation and write a book solely for the sake of doing so. I am glad to say I was wrong. This book teaches and educates leaders. From learning what not to do, it is a must-listen for any aspiring leader. #Audible1

Really great book.

Pleasantly surprised. Preview sounded as though it might be a little dull, but it was absolutely the opposite. I’m glad I finally listened to it!

It’s also politically neutral, which I was surprised by. After listening, however, you learn why that is (of you didn’t already know)!

Anyway, Comey handled the telling of this with a lot of respect, and it could have been told a thousand different ways. It would have been easy to come down on Trump in the final chapters and throw insults, but he sure rose above all that. Very well done.

Compelling

This was a pretty good story. Aside from the closing chapters that dealt with headline material, I found the majority of the author's story very interesting - perhaps worthy of a different novel (or two).

Some spots were a little preachy, but considering the author's position in society, this is not a criticism.

The author's voice work is good. Some chapters sounded mechanical in the beginning, however, as each chapter progressed, it is very detectable that the author was very engaged.

Enlightening

Clear look at the inside operations of the US Government. It gives hope to citizens of other countries that the US will emerge from the Trump debacle to once again be a country of honour and decency.

Amazing yet sorrowful

This was an amazing book that captured the true meaning of ethical and responsible leadership that Comey brought to the FBI. What matters now is the question of what the strongest country in the world will do with an unethical leader like Donald Trump? Your move America!

More than I expected

I expected an interesting perspective in the current political climate of the US in begining this book. I was provided with so much more than that. The discussuon around ethical leadership was incredibly valuable.

The book also skirted politics for most of the first 2/3 which was nice.

Would listen again.
