À propos de cet audio

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A stunning “portrait of the enduring grace of friendship” (NPR) about the families we are born into, and those that we make for ourselves. A masterful depiction of love in the twenty-first century.

NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALIST • MAN BOOKER PRIZE FINALIST • WINNER OF THE KIRKUS PRIZE

A Little Life follows four college classmates—broke, adrift, and buoyed only by their friendship and ambition—as they move to New York in search of fame and fortune. While their relationships, which are tinged by addiction, success, and pride, deepen over the decades, the men are held together by their devotion to the brilliant, enigmatic Jude, a man scarred by an unspeakable childhood trauma. A hymn to brotherly bonds and a masterful depiction of love in the twenty-first century, Hanya Yanagihara’s stunning novel is about the families we are born into, and those that we make for ourselves.

The topics being dealt with as you get into the novel can be difficult to "digest". I was a well told story, but felt very drawn out at times which made this read a lot longer than I feel it needed to be. The subject matter that was addressed later in the book was a bit too dark for me.

Not for the faint of heart

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ But wouldn’t recommend it to just anyone. It’s heavy one I had to break up my reading even though I was so pulled in to the desire to keep reading because I was getting pulled back to my past self.

The realism of the darkness

I have texted all of my friends who read to avoid this book. I have never read a book filled with more desperate sadness, despair, trauma and triggers in my life. Human trafficking, child abuse, s*exual predation, self harm, abusive relationships, death, despair, it has it all, honestly it’s so desperately sad. The characters are very well written and complex but this book is so full of horrors and despair there are things that are in my brain from reading it that I will never be able to forget and wish I could. Life is sad and desperate enough sometimes without reading a book filled with such despair and trauma.

The most desperately sad book I have ever read

It’s as if the author went into this book thinking, what are all of the most awful things I can do to a character, and how can I go even beyond that? The amount of misfortune and cruelty that the main character goes through is so tremendous that it actually becomes ridiculous. Because of this, I was completely taken out of the story. This book is perfect for angsty teens, but not necessarily for a literary reader.
