This book is hard hitting, gets to the ugly truth of what rock bottom looks like do many. loved it enjoyed the way it was narrated as well. I strongly recommend it to anyone who has been affected addiction weather their own or someone else.

I am glad I didn't. I understand the betrayal addicts might feel, but it's well written. the thing about trauma and addicts is, the capability to feel something is real in your mind and extenuating the parts they want to believe

I chose not to read about the controveries

Loved that it touched on very dark, scary places relating to addiction, while reminding us that willpower and stubbornness can be used to be pulled out of that dark place

He has his own voice, own style. His writing reminds me a bit of Cormac McCarthy and Hunter S. Thompson. His free-flowing, almost word association kind of writing seemed organic and entertained me. I also felt invested in the characters. Read it. It’s worthwhile.

Worth reading

I loved the voice of James Frey he did a Great job at Narrating his own book. The story was right to the point and accurate dealing with the life an addict lives. Also the book was not too long I was able to go back and forth listening whenever I needed encouragement from his wisdom.

This book saved me in high-school and help me get off hard drugs, and then helped me quit drinking by 21 I own a hard copy and this ebook.

Saved me in my early 20s

I feel like the narrator added inflection and internation that didn’t necessarily reflect what James Fry was trying to portray as his character and those in the story. I get that narrators need to do voices and take liberties but it just seem to be a little over done.

the narrator has a great voice that keep your mind wanting more of the story. really enjoyed the way this book was written as well. I would recommend this to anyone who asks about it.

addictive book, ironic

This was excruciating to listen to. (The written material may have been difficult to translate into spoken presentation?) I stayed to the end because I had to know how it all ended, but it was disappointing, repetitive and simplistic. (No insight whatsoever regarding why this person was such a mess.) Not a favorite!
