Publisher's Summary

Debuted and currently #4 on the New York Times audio bestseller list!

Fifty-something David Spade is letting it all hang out. Older (yes), wiser (debatable), in A Polaroid Guy in a Snapchat World, the actor, comedian, and SNL alum reflects on his life then and now through a series of candid and hysterical (and occasionally cringe-worthy) takes on everything from why it’s getting harder to date younger women, to what it’s like being a dad now, to suddenly being the “old guy” on set.

Whether he’s musing on the alarming ease of breaking up over text (he’s done it), feuding with a teenage Internet celebrity (spoiler alert, he lost), or dealing with the friend from high school who became his full-time plus-one, when the star of Joe Dirt and Just Shoot Me unleashes his biting wit and dirty mind on the general freakiness of middle-age, he’s in a league of his own (not to be confused with A League of Their Own).

Written and performed for the Audible experience, Spade’s new comic memoir takes listeners along for the sometimes embarrassing and always hilarious ride of getting older in our fleeting “Snapchat World”.

Hilar as usual

Pretty sure I listened the whole way through. He's been one of my faves since SNL and he just gets more funny. I relate to everything he says and realized I use some of the same dumb sayings as he does ..... David ... we're basically soulmates blah blah blah .. I'll wait for your call. lolz

Buy this book

This was the best audio book I've ever listened to and I really think Spade has a heart of gold. He accepts all angles to a subject not to mention he's hilarious and you instantly become on a personal level with him. I feel better after listening to this.

Funny dude. Great stories from his life and friends. Stripper story from Canada was awesome! I'm using that one!

Hilarious!

The incomparable Mr. Spade hits the nail on the head with this book. He's stories are insightful and really funny. Welcome to the over 50 world, kids! It's just as confusing as puberty but with more money and insurance.
Great job David! I loved it!

Who knew David Spade was sooo cool

Didn’t know too much about David Spade but after seeing him on Norm MacDonald I knew I needed to see hear this book. He comes across as someone I would love to have a beer with...he’s funny down to earth and makes fun of things in life that need to be poked at.... the book was riveting and the expressions are pretty dope too... I think my friends and family will be happy I am done the book so I can’t stop talking about it. Nice werk!

Laugh Out Loud Worthy

It took me a while to finish this audible, but nonetheless I finally got around to it after trying to clean up and couldn't help but laugh out loud throughout every chapter! I love David Spade and a big fan of all his material so this was a sure bet that I'd enjoy his work. If you're into raunchy jokes, some good flashbacks, and a little dose of tmi (or well a lot) then this is the download for you! Some of the jokes included in his book I found were the same ones he'd relay on Ellen or other day-time or late-night talk shows, so if you're familiar with his stand ups, then you'll catch a few that you may have heard already. Hope he does more!

Much better than the first one!

This book is such a good listen for when you’re running errands, driving your car to work, or simple things like that.
As David mentioned, it doesn’t add anything to your life, but it’s entertaining and light to listen to.
I find myself looking forward to head to the car for work just so I can listen to it.

Cynical humor at its best!

If you are a Spade fan, or even if you’re not, this book is a witty take on life as it was and is now. As a 40 something woman, I appreciated the nostalgic SNL and Farley references, as well as the more poignant moments of Spade’s upbringing and early years. His sarcasm and cynicism are the perfect pair as he describes the many hilarious moments of his life as a “star”. While a bit raunchy at times, this book is worth the price and the listen. It’s laugh out loud funny in a world where we don’t laugh nearly enough. Thanks David Spade!!

Laugh out loud hilarious

A great performance of a story that is both funny and touching by a guy who far more decent and thoughtful than his public persona.

Spade complains about dating and life

Spade complains about dating younger women repeatedly, complains about his body, complains about not being rich enough (I think or maybe it was that he’s not famous enough). Maybe it could’ve been funny but he refuses the same 3 punchlines for every joke and story and many of his stories are so blatantly made up/contrived that it completely destroys whatever comedic value they would have otherwise had. He’s describing things in his head as “real experiences” when he elsewhere says he thought those things—its a confusing mess. Aside from that, cringing at minutes and minutes of him talking about his sex life with the most grotesque descriptions...

Spade Succeeds in Spades

Lots of great comics out there- add a voracious online appetite that will swallow 10 years of material in a 45 min. spot, and you have near impossible odds of establishing a long term relationship with a loyal audience. Some have done it, always with a unique personality- able to overcome tarnishing time with its constantly new and shifting difficulty levels....
Lenny Bruce, Jerry Lewis, Carlin, Pryor, Dangerfield-modern comics at least have the shoulders of Giants to start off on-
Bill Hicks, Kennison, Hedberg, Louis CK, Chappell, Chris Rock....again, even given the amazing content, it’s the unique personalities that make for a lifetime friend-
And there you have the story and glory of Davie Spade- Trusting in his own personality to be his ‘character’, it’s clear that this shy and tentative person is never taking any chances by self deprecation, or self shaming; he’s got the room at Hello-
David is Everyman’s go-to hang partner. Like Gaffigan , Tom Papa, and (on a good day) Artie Lang, he can go for a couple hours and never approach a worn out welcome- He’s a welcome guest and a truly trusted comic- he’ll be around as long as he wants to be.

In my 20s, but still love it...

A lot of this book is geared at relating more towards those who aren't growing up in this "social media world". However, I'm in my twenties, and I grew up loving David Spade's comedy, so I wanted to give it a try anyway. I am so glad I did. There was a lot that was still very relatable. He's an amazing story teller in this. 6 hours flew by like it was nothing. I don't laugh out loud at much, but I really did at this, making myself look like a complete idiot many times. I would listen to him ramble like he did in this book for hours more! There are definitely some raunchy parts, but still hilarious. Such a well thought through look at his life.

Hilarious...

I was laughing so much I think my coworkers in the near by cubicles thought I was crazy. I loved that David Spade narrated the story. You can get his sense of humor. The book was about random life topics sometimes comparing the old way of life versus the new technological era. Super funny!

Still don't know what an Instagram model is

I loved David Spade on SNL and his work with Chris Farley, May Peace Be Upon Him. I had no idea of David's womanizer reputation or what an Instagram model was before listening to his book. Still haven't quite figured out what an Instagram model is but I will get to it. I commiserate with David on not being able to understand young twenties kids or their digital communications; however, I do not commiserate with David on his desire to date these children. Yes, I consider girls in their early twenties to be children. What will David do when a guy in his 50s rolls up to his house to date his daughter when she is 23? If his stomach doesn't turn, well then God Bless at least he's not a hypocrite. Still love his self deprecating humour. He's a doll...but David, I checked out Netflix after listening to your book. Not sure that the scads of comedy production on there is more laudable than the labors of an IG model. I am writing this review in exchange for a $5 coupon. Full disclosure.
