Publisher's Summary
Living in London's poorest slum, Mercy Wilkins has little hope of a better life. When she's offered an opportunity to join a bride ship sailing to British Columbia, she agrees. After witnessing so much painful heartache and loss in the slums, the bride ship is her only prospect to escape a bleak future, not only for herself but, she hopes, someday for her sister.
Wealthy and titled Joseph Colville leaves home and takes to the sea in order to escape the pain of losing his family. As ship's surgeon, he's in charge of the passengers' welfare aboard the Tynemouth, including 60 brides-to-be. He has no immediate intention of settling down, but when Mercy becomes his assistant, the two must fight against a forbidden love.
With hundreds of single men congregating on the shore eager to claim a bride from the Tynemouth, will Mercy and Joseph lose their chance at true love, or will they be able to overcome the obstacles that threaten to keep them apart?

Just okay.
I've read several of this author's books and this one was okay, but not as good as most.

Not as clean as I would have liked.
This had way too much sexual tention. I like clean romance. This started out so promising and then the author ruined it.

Loved it
I could not go through what Mercy did. She gave up everything and still kept her sweet helpful nature. She had people looking down on her just because of where she was born, but did not let that stop her. She was able to find the best in her circumstances and I loved how it all turned out.
Mercy finds herself on a bride ship as she is trying to get out of a bad situation. While on the voyage over, she finds herself helping others, a carry over from her previous life. She was able to make the long voyage from London to British Columbia more bearable for many on the ship.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one in the series.

I had a copy of this book and purchased the narration from Audible.
My thoughts about this book:
• A loved the story between a man and a woman from two different classes. A wealthy Lord that was a doctor and a woman who came from the slums of London.
• I was intrigued by the premise of a bride ship headed to Vancouver.
• I liked the relationship of caring that Joseph and Mercy had with each other. I felt it throughout the book. They were people I easily became attached to.
• How much baggage do we carry with us in life? Do we unconsciously drag it along life's pathway hindering our forward progression? These were questions I pondered as I read this book. I like books that make me think.
• The descriptions of locations and emotions were well done and easy to visualize. I felt a part of the scenes.
• The author writes with an easy-to-follow prose that guides the reader without confusion.
• There were some religious overtones in this book, but it was a natural part of the characters' lives. This book was not preachy.
• This story was well edited.
• This was a clean read.
• The narrator did an exceptional job and brought this story to life.
I enjoyed this book very much and I highly recommend it. It is a unique romance and I think you'll enjoy it. I plan to read more books by this author.

Depressing but decent ending
This book depressed me so much. It was 98% gloomy and sad. Although it had a decent story line and was somewhat difficult to stop reading, I kept thinking it would start having some lightness to it or even a little humor, it never got there. Just heartache thru the entire book.

Wish Narrator had used a different voice.
Over all I enjoyed the storyline. I do wish the narrator had used a different voice for Mercy, she sounded like she was a little girl. It made it difficult to really get into the story because it sounded like a love story between a 40 year old man and a 10 year old girl.

Quite reluctant
a story about a girl refusing to love a man just because of dumb excuses was quite irritating but I suppose it ends well.

Awesome story of compassion and adventure!
Wow, I’m thankful that we have come a long way from the lack of medical care and work opportunity as women.
Mercy comes from very poor and large family in the slums of London. However she is kind and helpful to those in her world. When her mom looses her position at the factory Mercy voluntarily leaves her home so that her 10 year old brother is not forced to find work on the docks.
While visiting her old sister Patience informs her of a way out of London via the Ladies Aids Society. Little does she know that this is a brides ship, which wouldn’t have been a problem if Mercy hadn’t sworn of marriage!
Mercy has meet the ships surgeon while seeking help for a neighbors baby whom had taken sick at the nearby clinic. This surgeon is actually Lord Joseph Caldville whom has abandoned his place in society to treat the poor and be a surgeon on a ship.
Both find themselves on the same ship both adamant in following their own pursuit. However with illness coming from all areas abroad the ship they find themselves thrown together as Doctor and assistant.
Will their wills bend to find love with one another and follow God’s will for their lives or will they continue fighting God and go their own way?
