Publisher's Summary
A lonely young heiress becomes the poorest wealthy woman in Victorian England when her father dies without telling anyone where he hid his fortune. Can Tressa and the no-nonsense estate manager find the fortune before the greedy relatives get to it first?
Tressa Harlowe's father did not trust banks, but neither did he trust his greedy extended family. He kept his vast fortune hidden somewhere on his estate in the south of England and died suddenly, without telling anyone where he had concealed it. Tressa and her ailing mother are left with a mansion and an immense vineyard and no money to run it. It doesn't take long for a bevy of opportunists to flock to the estate under the guise of offering condolences. Tressa knows what they're really up to. She'll have to work with the rough and rusticated vineyard manager to keep the laborers content without pay and discover the key to finding her father's fortune before someone else finds it first. Award-winning author Joanna Davidson Politano welcomes readers to Trevelyan Castle, home of the poorest heiress in Victorian England, for a treasure hunt they'll not soon forget.

Sober second opinion
Yes this is Christian historical fiction not correctly represented in the description. But no the spiritual elements are not jarring.
Having read plenty of CHF but not particularly looking for it at the moment, this book was a surprise that ended up redeeming the genre. The writing is superb and intricate but with simple themes. No cheese or melodrama in the romantic storyline. Perfect mix of historical context and romance with mystery and theology. And the narration was like a balm whenever I picked it up.
I don't often reread these quick reads but I think I'll come back to this one.

Why God?
I was really enjoying this book until it took a weirdly religious turn. Out of no where Tressa is all “god are you there”, “help me God”, blah blah blah. It was really off putting. This book didn’t have to be loaded with racy sex scenes but it sure didn’t need to feel like this author was jamming her beliefs down my throat.
It was super misleading reading the summary of this book to make it seem like any other romance novel to have it turn out to be a thinly veiled religious pamphlet.

Delicious
What a delightful story. I thoroughly enjoyed listening. It had a nice mix of mystery, romance and food for thought.
Some reviews suggested offense with the fact that the main character sometimes threw out a plea of help from God. It wasn’t overdone; and personally, I prefer to hear a cry out to God, rather than a cursing Him.
I believe you will find this story well worth your time.

Started off good and then went too religious
The book started off interesting but went towards a religious bent without warning. I don't mind a little religious/faith discussion in a book, but I wasn't expecting it and it was off-putting for me. Meant to be "inspirational" but just turned me completely off of this book. Some may like that it has a religious/Christian tone, but as I wasn't expecting it and it was pervasive, it wasn't for me.

A Novel Full of God’s Wisdom !
This amazing book reveals story within story of God’s love, grace, and redemption in a form disguised as a mystery and romance. I highly recommend it to any reader who is searching for truth in a world that is confusing and filled with misguided assumptions and beliefs. Read it slowly so as not to overlook the treasure hidden inside.

Glad I took a chance! Loved it!
This appears to be second book by this author and I haven’t read her first one - there were no reviews because it is brand new. I’m very happy that I took a chance! The writing is captivating. I loved the way the heroine had backbone and was surprisingly creative. I’d describe the genre as mystery/suspense with some romance. I’m interested to see what she writes next.

A bit drawn out but rich characters and strong story. Christian ideals with implementation was a pleasant surprise as it inspired thought on loving your enemies. I am starting next book now!

Excellent story
Part romance, mystery, & allegory. I loved the quotes from the notebook of a viticulturist at the beginning of each chapter. I can’t wait to read more works by this author. Loved the unique voice of the narrator, too.

Warn me if book is Christian or religion-oriented
I wish audible would label inspirational or religious laden literature so I wouldn't have to waste my time returning these books. I'll just have to start looking up the author before I buy a title since audible isn't going to warn me. Amazon at least indicates if an author is a Christian or other inspirational type of writer - much easier to avoid.

Unpredictable and enjoyable but....
This book was a pleasant surprise. I loved the plot and storyline, which moved along quite well and was unpredictable at times. The message was touching and relatable (for those who have sought out a personal relationship with God).
The narration, however, left much to be desired. The narrator reads the story quite well when just narrating, its the dialogue that becomes completely obnoxious. She reads female characters in a high whiney voice - I repeatedly mistook the elderly housekeeper for a young girl. Then the male characters are read with this menacing growling gruff - I had to repeat the hero's dialogue in my head several times, telling myself he really didn't sound like the narrator made him sound. It was completely creepy and I had difficulty aligning the MC's feelings for him with mine because of how he was narrated.
Overall the book is well written but the narration is a big disappointment.

While looking for an escape from COVID lockdown, this light romance was a pleasant diversion
This was a nicely written lightweght historical romance with fairytale undertones. As an agnostic, I was put off but the frequent beseeching to God by the heroine for help in overcoming her many travails. But the characters are fun, the far-fetched plot compelling enough to keep one interested, and a happy ending where the princess gets to keep her castle, her prince, and the long lost treasure — what’s not to enjoy? I also enjoyed the structure of the story about the care, cultivation and evolution of an ailing vineyard as a metaphor for the nurturing one’s spiritual health. A nice read/listen for those with a Jane Austen addiction.
