À propos de cet audio

Following his 2019 production of A Raisin in the Sun, celebrated as "an absorbing, watershed revival," by The New York Times, Robert O’Hara returns to Williamstown Theatre Festival to direct this Tennessee Williams masterpiece. With Emmy, Grammy, and six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald as Blanche DuBois alongside Carla Gugino as Stella, O’Hara takes a fresh and visceral look at the emotionally charged relationship between these two iconic sisters. Haunted by her past, Blanche seeks refuge with Stella and Stanley (Ariel Shafir) in New Orleans, where she wrestles with the nature of her sister’s husband, her sister’s denial, and her own unraveling mind.

Absolutely riveting performance. Stanley, Blanche and Stella fully illuminated to the extent which the undertaking of their roles deserved. The performance was engaging and opens up the audiobook form as an impressive medium to experience one of the greatest American plays ever written.

What an amazing production. Every performance was spectacular. I could not pick one performance over another as a favorite.
I hope to listen to many more productions done as well as these. Congratulations to the entire crew from sound effects to mixers just SPECTACULAR!

Amazing to have this available for free to Audible members. Please do yourself a favor and listen if you've never experienced the play. However, I prefer the performances available in the BBC Tennessee Williams collection, most significantly the performance of Stanley. If you want a taste of Tennessee Williams without spending a credit then you can't go wrong with this, but if you're looking for the best version of Streetcar on Audible, I would look to the BBC version.

Like most people of the past 30 years, I only know of “Streetcar” thanks to that episode of The Simpsons. This is considered one of the greatest plays of the 20th Century and with good reason: it deals with a myriad of heavy themes with both drama and dark humour.

Blanche DuBois is a former Southern belle who, after encountering a series of personal losses, leaves her once-prosperous situation to move into a shabby apartment in New Orleans rented by her younger sister Stella and brother-in-law Stanley. Themes of domestic abuse, racism, sexual assault and homosexuality are all touched on, as we Blanche is essentially gaslit into thinking she’s an awful person because—GOD FORBID—she drinks, has sex, and is broke.

This dramatization was great, but my only beef was Blanche (Audra McDonald) and her sister, Stella (Carla Gugino), sound so much alike that to not SEE them perform had me lost on a few occasions as to who was speaking. Otherwise this is a great tale with a tragic ending.

Amazing

I wasn’t expecting an audio-only to be so excellent and so moving. McDonald’s narration and guttural effects are remarkable.

Wow

Seriously. Some of the characters were portrayed in a "nails on a chalkboard" level of terrible!

This performance was terrible!
