Publisher's Summary

What if falling in love meant almost losing everything?

Where does a moderately popular internet star who never leaves her house look for potential suitors? Online. Tinder, Bumble, Match.com, OkCupid - I tried them all. My 31-year-old self clicked and swiped her little heart out, leading to more dates than I could count, and more disappointment than I was prepared for.

Maybe you can relate. Maybe you know all too well the perils of modern dating. But let’s say, eventually, you meet someone. You think to yourself, “Wow, they’re perfect! Take me off the market, put a ring on it, knock me up, the whole enchilada, because they are ‘the one.’” Let’s also say that they “feel the same way” about you. Your life starts to make sense! All the pain, heartbreak, and frustration from past failed relationships was worth it. Slow clap.

That’s how I felt about Milos. He was from Europe, a doctor, wealthy, athletic. He had an accent and a dog. Milos was textbook marriage material. For him it was “love at first sight”, but for me, it was “anxiety on every date”. Something was telling me to run - but for two years, the only running I did was straight into his arms.

If only I would have listened. This isn’t a love story. It’s my story of survival.

Thank you

This book helped me through leaving my abusive ex. Over the 2-3 days of listening to this book, I packed up all my stuff and got my son and I out of there.

Completely captivating

I first heard Brittani’s story when she was featured in one of Shane Dawson’s series. I was completely stunned hearing it and had watched the video several times. When I found that her book was on Audible I had to get it because I wanted to know the full story. It went even deeper than the summary she gave in Shane’s YouTube video, with twists and turns that no one could ever make up. It was fascinating and eye-opening to hear this story. It really makes you want to be a little more cautious and take care of yourself when dating, but without creating paranoia. It really seemed like she told the truth and poured her heart out into this book. It felt like she was a friend you’re catching up with after a long time apart as she tells you what happened in her life for the last few years. I didn’t want this book to end!

Heart wrenching story of true strength

This story was something I’ve been waiting to listen to as a follower online. What I wasn’t expecting was the hard truth, the absolutely devastating words that she put out there and the nerve of one man to use women like that. I am incredibly thankful she had the courage to share her story so other in situations such as these may someday have the courage to get out. Huge respect for this author and her new memoir

Heartbreaking

This is truly a well written cautionary tale that was both enthralling and almost unbelievable. Brittani is strong and brave for having gone through what she did and I'm sure Rex will be forever grateful for his amazing mother.

Still can't believe this actually happened to her!

Brittani's voice is so calming and you can really hear the emotions behind it. I remember watching her on YouTube years ago, can't believe something so horrible can happen to suck a heartwarming girl.

Thankful and blessed!

Brittani is one of the sweetest people I know! When I fell on hardships due to my husband getting laid off right at Christmas time, she helped me by selflessly going above and beyond to help out a complete stranger in need. You see, I have 4 kids and had no money of my own as I wasn’t able to work due to my own mental health and physical issues, so I entered one of her contests that she frequently did on her channel for a prize that one of my children wanted really bad for Christmas and I WON! I told her my story and how grateful I was to her. Well she ended up blessing my whole family with presents that year! She didn’t have to... but this is the kind of person she is. Fast forward to now... I have currently lost 225 lbs, and my mental health has completely changed since then and I have my very first job and am currently debt free for the first time in my life... which is why I was finally able to purchase her book which I’ve had on my wish list since she announced it! I am sooo thankful I finally got to hear her story and I am so proud of her for being so strong and surviving! God bless her and her wonderful mom and of course her handsome little man! I pray she one day gets her happy ever after with a man who actually deserves her! She is an inspiration to so many and I am thankful she is still vlogging her life as I’m excited to watch where the rest of her life’s path takes her! This book had me laughing and crying and smiling with such pride at how she overcame such a horrific experience when this should have been the most happiest time of her life! God bless you Brittanni and keep fighting the good fight! You’re an amazing woman, mom and friend to so many. WE love you!!!

beautiful work

I've watched Brittani on YouTube for a long time and seeing her grow as a person and then take this journey as a mother. you'd never know all of this was happening to her. she has such incredible grace and poise in every thing she's done and this book is no exception. it makes the reality of domestic violence a lot more relatable and it shows that it doesn't have a template or a set of rules. It's awful but it's in how you handle it. she's a gem and this book is beautiful. It's honest and a reflection of her as a person. overall beautiful work.

Entertaining and insightful!

I loved that this story was told as if we were living it with Brittani. Telling it in this way makes it easy for people who haven’t been in abusive relationships to understand how so many women find themselves falling for these people and stuck in the abusive cycle. I was also conned by my first love, not to the this extreme but women need to be more aware to protect themselves! This is an entertaining story and good audiobook!

Heart break. Raw. Real. A love story to her son!

I’ve been watching Brittani since I was 13 and remember when this was happening to her real time. I knew something was up and knew she would tell it when the time was right. Everyone must read this! It’s raw and from the heart. She is so real and was able to over come such a heart ache. You see her love she has for her son and what she had to do to protect him at all cost! Just simply amazing!

Great story, badly narrated

This is a great story and I really respect the authors courage to share with such honesty. My only complaint is that her tone of voice and inflection makes it difficult to listen to at times. I would have preferred to have just read this one.

I feel for her, but the narration was awful.

I have utmost respect for a survivor coming forward with their story. Blessings to her and to her son for the calm they now have after such insanity and calamity.

That being said the valley-girl like inflections were taxing, the timeworn cliches exhausting and the syntax lackluster. I get it, a youtuber, not a writer. However, one would expect words conveyed through a camera to be delivered similarly to that through a recording microphone. Comparable to other reviews I've read, the naivete was unbearable. Not lacking empathy for her situation, but astonished by how devoid she was of common sense.

I'm flattered for her to see all the positive reviews, though I'm left aghast to know that very few who have read this know what decent reading is.

Could have been better..

Okay, so I don’t like giving negative reviews especially on a story like this one. It really, really sucks that she has gone through all of this and no one deserves to be treated this way. I, myself, am a victim of abuse and it’s unreal the tactics these people use to have control over someone. BUT I feel like this book could have been written much better and there was no emotion in her voice which made it super hard to continue, but I just really wanted to hear her story. I also can’t get over how naive people can be even at her age. I was very young when I experienced the abuse which is to be expected for someone at my age (being naive), but in your 30’s taking advice from a “doctor” telling you NOT to use birth control and that the “pull out” method is safe? Seriously.... I just wish this story was written better and sounded like it was being told by a grown adult, not a 16 year old...

Great book iffy narration

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t in love with Brittani’s narration of the audio book. It was as if she was reading her own story for the first time. The different voices were great but the enthusiasm and personality were missing from the narration. As far as the story, I think it was a pretty crazy and scary story. I feel for Brittani having to go through such turmoil but unfortunately it’s how we learn our most valuable lessons. Love is so powerful. And it’s so crazy how from the outside I could predict the lies as she was narrating because I too have been in a similar situation and know what to look for. When you’re in the thick of it though it’s so hard to see past what you want and rely on what you feel.
As far as Milosh goes, it’s sad that people find more joy in manipulating folks than they do in finding love within themselves. Karma does not discriminate and with his lies being as amateur as they are he will indeed get caught.

Wow

Brittani's narration was a downside to this. It was robotic and monotone. It came off as cheesy and awkward at times. In the beginning chapters of the book, she seemed detached from the story. By the end, I felt her narration improved and she had more emotion in her voice with the seriousness of the book progressing. I enjoyed listening to the story and it was a simple read. My heart goes out to Brittani and her child and I am glad she was able to overcome this.

Brittani's abusive relationship with a con artist

I first watched Brittani's videos in 2007. I've since lost touch with her content until a video announcing her pregnancy and engagement was suggested to me by youtube. And then, two years later, I hear she released a book !
Well, turns out the fiance was a con artist ! I will not spoil the details of the emotional abuse she went through, I will let you read it for yourselves. It is not the best written book, but it is easy to listen to.
I felt bad for Brittani, she reminded of a sweet, well intentionned, hopeful friend of mine who always falls for the wrong guys.
She does come off as naive but I try not to judge her too harshly. As they say : "Love makes us blind".
I am glad Brittani is doing better. I truly hope she works on her self-esteem and surrounds herself with positive people and professionnal help, especially since she had a child with said con artist.
