Publisher's Summary

New York Times best seller • Two sisters must learn from each other's strengths and trust in the redeeming power of love in a touching new novel from number-one New York Times best-selling author Debbie Macomber.

The Lakey sisters are perfect opposites. After their mother died and their father was lost in grief, Willa had no choice but to raise her sister, Harper, and their brother, Lucas. Then, as an adult, she put her own life on hold to nurse Harper through a terrifying illness. Now that Harper is better and the sisters are living as roommates, Willa has realized her dream of running her own bakery and coffee shop, bringing her special brand of caretaking to the whole Oceanside community.

Harper, on the other hand, is always on the go. Overcoming a terrible illness has given her a new lease on life, and she does not intend to waste it. When Harper announces her plan to summit Mount Rainier, Willa fears she may be pushing herself too far. Harper, for her part, urges Willa to stop worrying and do something outside of her comfort zone - like taking a chance on love with a handsome new customer.

Sean O'Malley is as charming as he is intriguing - a freelance photographer whose assignments take him to the ends of the earth. Soon Willa's falling for him in a way that is both exciting and terrifying. But life has taught Willa to hedge her bets, and she wonders whether the potential heartache is worth the risk.

Life has more challenges in store for them all. But both sisters will discover that even in the darkest moments, family is everything.

Is this really a romance?

Dear god this was depressing. More story on the sister and cancer than the romance of the main character. Not sure how or when they developed such intense feelings and devotion for each other— I apparently missed that. *Tip- keep your tissues close and an antidepressant.

I felt the heart of the writer- no spoilers

This book will take you through all your emo’s. The themes, reconciliation, evolving as a person, self care, selflessness, grief, forgiveness, anger, family and community, health care and health scares. At times I saw myself and other times I saw people I love. You will chuckle, you will cry, you will be happy and you will sit sipping tea with a lump in your throat!. I could tell some of the characters emo’s came from personal experience because at times I felt like I was intruding on someone else private grief. My Dad won or lost the battle with cancer depending on how you look at it! The care of him left me more aware of human mortality! This was a book that reminded me to live and persevere through challenges. Also successful second careers are possible too! You will root for love!!!

Not her best work!

I’m a big fan of Debbie Macomber, but this wasn’t her best. Too predictable even though it was a sad story.

So Predictable

It's obviously just written as a formulae that will sell. I used to read and listen to a lot of her books. Don't know that I will continue.

Life's experiences

This book was very enjoyable, happy, sad, lovely. It wasn't one of my favorites but it was certinaly worth to hear and own this. Debbie Macomber is just fanstatic. This will tug at your heart strings, so be prepared. It will bring all kinds of emotions out. The narrators were great, but not fantastic
