About this listen
At 57 years of age, John Brink, a successful entrepreneur, found himself in a local bookstore. As he casually wandered through the aisles, his eye was drawn to a particular title: Driven to Distraction, by Edward M. Hallowell and John Ratey. Reading the opening paragraph, John felt an uncommon connection to the material. The authors weren’t just talking to him; they were talking about him.
In that moment, John was hit by a thunderclap revelation that upended his entire world. For the first time in his life, he realized who he really was—and that he had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD.
This was the beginning of John’s ADHD journey. In the ensuing years, he explored the latest thinking about the neuro-developmental condition: how it manifests, why it occurs, how to navigate it. As he connected the dots from his past, however, he came to believe that ADHD not only didn’t hold him back from achieving his dreams but was the key to making those dreams a reality.
John realized that the so-called “disorder” is actually integral to who he is at his core. And that if ADHD is acknowledged, harnessed, and channeled, it can offer its “owners” a toolkit of abilities that can build an extraordinary life filled with excitement, purpose, passion, and achievement. In ADHD Unlocked, John lays out his prescriptions for living richly and meaningfully—a theme that is central to this brave and inspiring new book.

Story
In 1965, John Brink left the Netherlands for Canada equipped with only a single suitcase and $25.47 in cash. He had no connections, he didn’t speak the language, and he’d never finished elementary school, yet he was convinced he could make his dream to build his own sawmill come true. With a tenacity bordering on obsession, John achieved his dreams...and then some. In this lively autobiography, John distills a half-century’s hard work to share 10 simple takeaways.

Story
Adult ADHD can affect men in different ways. Men may experience it in various ways, and its symptoms can be more challenging to detect. Men with ADHD are often overlooked, leaving many who are struggling with their abilities to feel isolated or confused about what they're experiencing. While the underlying mechanisms of ADHD are still being studied, it is thought that the male brain may process information differently than the female brain, which could account for some of these differences. This audiobook was written for men who think they have ADHD or have been diagnosed with it.

Very informative
I learned a lot from the book (mostly because I have quite a few people in my life who have ADHD).
I've listened to other books about ADHD, I've read lots of articles about people with ADHD, and I have spent a lot of time talking about ADHD with my family and friends....and John's book still contributed a lot to my understanding of the condition as well as how people with ADHD can unlock the good things about it and leverage them to create success in their lives.
