Would you marry a woman you hate for a life-changing inheritance?

Monica’s business has been hit hard by a global recession, her ex-girlfriend is selling the house out from under her, and the hot handy ma’am Ray, who was hired to fix up the place, turns out to be the most annoying woman on the planet. Could things get any worse?

All Ray wants is to finish her job and say adios to the world’s most high-maintenance client. But after being mistaken for Monica’s girlfriend, how can Ray walk away when going along with the charade would grant an old lady her dying wish? It’s not like Ray intended to be so charming that Monica’s grandmother would rewrite her will.

Now, the unlikely couple stands to inherit a vineyard in rural New England and a heap of cash large enough to change both their lives. The only hitch? They have to get hitched. And since Monica is a professional wedding blogger, they’ll have to make it the wedding of the century while convincing two million followers they’re madly in love.

No problem, aside from the simple fact that they can’t stand each other. There’s a good chance the whole thing could end in disaster, but is it possible these enemies might find true love along the way?

Glad I didn’t listen to negative reviews

Reading some of the reviews had me on the fence about buying this story. Some I think were much to upset about the clothes “issue.” Personally, the one character didn’t seem overly “butch” to me, rather more the tomboy type that we described back in the 90’s. Where they liked more masculine or male type clothes, but still could appreciate those designed for the female form at times.
In the end I chose to listen to the majority of positive reviews and I am definitely glad I did. It was sweet and funny and exactly my type of romance book.

Anti Butch sentiment turned me off this book

The book itself has a fun, flirty, opposites attract vibe. I was really enjoying the dynamic of this book up until chapter 8 when the femme character coerces the MOC character to shop in the women’s section of a store because “men’s clothing would be too baggie or not fit right.” Including undergarments In a very judging way as if there aren’t gorgeous women wearing well fitted men’s suits. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get past it and finish the book. As someone in a relationship with a MOC woman I found it unauthentic and offensive. I posted this in a book group for further discussion. The author explained that it was more an intent to show one characters personal growth. I did end up finishing the book. After that portion set the tone for me there were a few other character comments through out that cemented this tone for me. Implying the character was more attractive in form fitting women’s pants, referring to all of the men’s clothes as looking like sacks. The only redeeming factor was a point when they opted for a custom suit.

The quality of the writing is great, the narrator is wonderful as always, I just can’t get passed these sort of micro aggressions with butch women to love this book. Many May read it and think “that wasn’t so bad.” If you are a Butch woman who has experienced these micro aggressions before or you love someone who has portions of this book will likely bring up those feelings and give you pause.

YES!

I liked the characters. I liked the story. I was very pleased with the narration. Being honest I really did not think I would be able to ever hear one of Miranda's books so glad you changed narrators stick with Lori from now on.

Great except for two things...

I hate it when conflict in romance is driven by stupid misunderstandings that could easily be resolved if only the two characters would communicate.

The story was great, one of the best I have had the pleasure of listening to in a while. But the conflict toward the end really pulled me out of it. I had to skip a chapter because I just didn’t care to put myself through listening to the fallout. The book went from amazing to irritating and didn’t leave enough at the end to fully make up for the mistakes made, leaving me unsatisfied.

Also, I found it strange that Monica was so against Ray wearing men's clothing. Saying they hung on her like a sack. If she just wanted her to wear a different size, that would be one thing but she flat out insisted that men's clothes don't look good on women. That just isn't true. Personally, I have a preference for women's pants but 90% of the shirts I own are men's and they fit me fine. Look damn good too if I might add, and I know there are plenty of women that look incredible in a fitted men's suit.

Ray didn't seem to mind, she was more the type to dress for convivence rather than style but I still found the exchange odd. I feel like I should recommend another book that handles this topic much better. It's called "In Fashion" by Jody Klaire. Unfortunately, it's not on audible but definitely worth a read.

Hated...

to see it end. It's hard not to fall in love with Ray and Monica, each with their own strengths, flaws and wounds. How they interact is purely magical, creating quite the enjoyable snarky romance. They are young, beautiful, smart and excellent at what they do. That can pretty much be said of main characters in most romance novels. What made this such a winner for me is the electricity of ideas and the chemistry that bounces between them. They are pretty amazing alone, but so much more so together. And how they move together, after a rocky start that should have ended there, makes it such a fun ride. You too, will hate when this ride ends. Can we get a sequel? Lori Prince once again works her magic, bringing this story alive.

Enchanting

Almost every time I read a book by Miranda MacLeod, I’m surprised that they make me laugh. Maybe it’s time I stop being surprised and embrace the fact that she is funny. If you like romcoms, you’ll love this book. And Lori Prince is the perfect narrator for it.

I love a good fauxmance novel, because everything that can go wrong will and because the author has to work even harder to make the falling in love credible. Miranda MacLeod makes even the lack of communication seem unavoidable. While very different, Monica and Ray share two characteristics: they’re stubborn and they’re insecure. Even when it’s obvious to them that the other lusts after them, they can’t believe they would want a real relationship. They spend so much time fighting their growing feelings that they can’t see the other is struggling just as much. It could be annoying but it’s actually very sweet and that’s because the characters are so endearing.

For some reason, for once, I don’t really have the words to explain why I enjoyed this story so much. It’s enchanting. It made me happy, it made me smile, it made me chuckle, it made my heart squeeze then warm up. It was the perfect counterbalance to Must Love Silence by Lucy Bexley, which I was reading at the same time and loved too in a totally different way. Accidental Honeymoon brought back the air Must Love Silence was making it difficult to breathe in. It grounded me, which, for a story set in a vineyard, sounds especially fitting.

Loved it!

This is my first Miranda MacLeod book thanks to Lori Prince! I'll definitely be reading more of her books. The book had me cracking up with all the comedy. Reminded me a little of Robin Alexander. Story and characters were great. And I swear Lori's narration gets better and better. She was great in this.

Cute Story!

What a cute story! The MCs were adorable, and hysterically funny! Mr. Fluffes was cute and as evil and beautiful like any cat could be. The plot was well developed and funny. The narrator Lori Prince was very good. Overall, the story was very good!
