Publisher's Summary

The real nightmare starts when her daughter is returned....

A bone-chilling psychological thriller that will suit fans of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, Daughter by Jane Shemilt, and The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.

A girl is missing. Five years old, taken from outside her school. She has vanished, traceless. The police are at a loss; her parents are beyond grief. Their daughter is lost forever, perhaps dead, perhaps enslaved. But the biggest mystery is yet to come: one week after she was abducted, their daughter is returned. She has no memory of where she has been. And this, for her mother, is just the beginning of the nightmare.

Predictable

I don't know what made it more cringeworthy for me - the narrator's "evil" narration was a combination of Sesame Street's Count Dracula and Mike Myers' Dr Evil. Unlistenable. Or the immediately predictable story. I loathe the main character, Julia, for being so dumb and not realizing what was going on as soon as I did - which was about a chapter into the story.
Save your money. There are better books and narrators out there.

My feedback..2 overall

Storyline was decent but the author deviated too much and it became annoying after a while. I would end up fast forwarding through the babbling to get to the real storyline.

is there an abridged version? too long

Pretty much nothing happens in this book. Which is a shame because the premise is so interesting. Maybe I needed the shorter version?
I'm 29 minutes from the end and debating not even finishing it, because nothing will happen.

Very good story.

Easy to listen to, great narrator, good story. Characters are lifelike, believable, and evoked some emotion from me. I would recommend it.

Not entertainment! The only reason any stars are given is that it will not post otherwise

The story started slowly, and as is put out in the synopsis, results in the return. It rapidly runs downhill with the speed of a runaway locomotive through muck and mire of human disfunction.

Do not succumb to the leaders. This is a disturbed story that cannot in any way be termed entertaining, or enlightening, or to have any moral redeeming value.

It was a bad buy.

It Was Obviously Predictable

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I would say yes, because the narrator made such a huge difference for the story. Without the narrator, the story wouldn't be so great. She gave life to the story.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect of the story was being able to see the disaster of Julia's marriage. I was very sympathetic to her circumstances even when it was not relate-able.

Which scene was your favorite?

The very end when she had to tear apart her hand to get out of the Priest hole.

Do you think After Anna needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, I wouldn't be interested in reading a second book but if there was a book. I should probably be a back story of Etna and what triggered her physiological behavior.

Any additional comments?

The story was ok, I really wish the Author could have wrote the story in the way were it wasn't obvious who culprit was. That was the most disappointing part of the whole book. But overall was a good story. I rooted for Julia throughout the story. She was in so many obstacles. That was really strong.

Excellent!

What a sharp twisted treat. Just enough mystery to keep you guessing right to the end. Hope there's a sequel!

Just ok.

This story is very repetitive, predictable and frustrating. The only thing that made it enjoyable was the way it is narrorated. The narrorator is great !

Haunting

Oh Julia.. I felt for this poor woman throughout the book. The idea of losing one of my children, even if only for a few minutes, is enough to make my heart race and my stomach drop. It's a fear that every mother knows. My anxiety was out the roof as I listened as Julia took blow after blow. I can't really say much without spoiling the story, but I think one reason this book shook me so much is because every bit of it could totally happen in real life.
Gripping story, great character development, and good attention to detail. Has some lulls here and there but overall it was a good book.

Good story. Mind numbing descriptions

The story is excellent but the author goes on and on with descriptions or on tangents unrelated to the plot. Fortunately the story was strong enough to keep me listening through the mind numbing moments. I enjoyed the book but can't say I will seek more title by this author.
