Publisher's Summary
Paramedic Connor Haus is good at two things - saving lives on the streets of Boston and holding her past against every firefighter she meets. The tragic loss of her partner, Kam, has left her bitter and angry; her work and fellow EMT Jake O'Harrigan the only pieces of her life she still cares about. Until rookie firefighter Logan Curtis moves to town, and onto Connor's scene, and threatens to rattle the walls Connor has long since put up.
Hotshot Logan has never had a problem getting women to notice her. But when Connor trips her radar, she realizes Connor may be more than just another notch on her bedpost.
But how could anyone compete with Kam's memory?
Sometimes, you have to wait until after the fire to see just what's worth saving.

What A Letdown
This is the second of the author's books I've tried and unless changes a great deal there won't be a third. There were far too many scenarios occurring that didn't manage to move the narrative forward at all. Then there is the matter of Connor one of the book's two lead characters who for some reason the author portrayed as the consummate bitch. It's good that the author made no attempt to portray the lead characters as too good to be true, but neither is it realistic to have the one lead character presented that way, while the other has seemingly fallen for a woman who does nothing but insult her. I made it to about the halfway point before I threw in the towel; even if Connor managed to change her behavior the fact that Logan had put up with all her rude, anti-social behavior, mixed in with multiple put-downs and insults was enough for me. Verbal abuse and bullying are ugly whether they are perpetrated by a man or a woman.

I wanted to like it, I really did....
What disappointed you about After the Fire?
Connor had no redeeming quailites at all -
What was most disappointing about Emily Smith’s story?
The characters
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Margaret McCormick?
Narrator actually did a good job.
Any additional comments?
Based on the premise of the book, and the jobs of the characters, I really wanted to like this book. The story line had such potential, however the complete lack of redeeming qualities of Connor had me struggling to even finish listening.

Previous reviews doesn't make it justice.
Connor is portrait in the book and by previous reviewers as a jerk/bitch who is always in the wrong. I disagree, life makes a person and stereotypical behavior is not always something to aim for. Connor has reasons and people keeps pushing her against her will.
I would also be annoying with a bite if I was
partnered with Jake and his jackass attitude. He keeps pushing Connor around and for some reasons everything is her fault. That's what's making me somewhat mad. His banter and matchmaking is never at fault apparently.

cute story
This book was an easy book to get into. the drama was real enough that the reader can get involved and truely care about the cast of characters, and their lives.
there was a time where I felt Hoss was being a bit hypocritical, being mad at Logan for seeing other people when she was having her own one night stands so to speak. I kinda didn't like her for a while.
So as you see, if I can get into this book enough to dislike one of the MC you will surely enjoy the story.
beside me being a Smoke Jumper, I kinda have a thing for Fire fighters.

okay story
The story was okay but felt like it was going in circles. There were some funny parts, which made it better. The narrator was great.
