I usually enjoy Lisa Jewell's books but...

I have read a few of her books before so was looking forward to this one. Writing is good, as usual, Helen Duff gives a good performance. I just couldn't seem to care very much about the main characters. I liked Ralph but didn't like Jem, found her mainly irritating. Thought a couple of the secondary story lines petered out rather than resolved. Just left me underwhelmed.
I will definitely read her books in the future but this one didn't do it for me.

Narration is key!

Another incredible read. Not the usual Lisa Jewell but another that you cannot stop. Loved it!

Bitter, Anti-Christian Stereotyping Detracts.

I found this an insightful and mostly enjoyable novel. Helen Duff's narration was beautiful, and Lisa Jewel's character development did not disappoint. I was however, disappointed to find an oft repeated bitter, almost "preachy" anti-Christian theme which detracted from the overall story.

Drags

Very sad about this book, love Lisa Jewell but this book dragged, never went ANYWHERE . Not sure what was the meaning of the characters musings,... I agree with one of the reviews, there was a section of almost hateful religion bashing which I'm not sure why that was put in, I'm not religious, but it was pretty harsh! Don't waste your credits on this book.unless you like to listen to people just talking about their feelings.

Infuriating characters

I love this author, and I love this narrator. However I hated nearly every adult character in this book.

Reading their idiotic choices was like watching a train collision in slow motion over and over.

The writing was as always good. But wow I hated those characters.

Excruciating!

This was my least favorite book by Lisa Jewell . The story dragged on and on and on and on! I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Got hung up in one spot

I don't believe this is a spoiler...just saying... I had trouble getting past one scene where 2 characters wanted to go out, so they put their babies to bed and left. Flabbergasted. Who does that?

Narrator excellent. Story to that point excellent. This is not a Nora Robert's mushy romance....just a good story for the most part. The end was a bit sappy for my taste, but I liked how this was a couple who had been together for a long time..... not a typical boy meets girl, boy looses girl... boy gets girl back. Except for the above mentioned, it was very true to life and validating to me in my life. It's tricky to stay together for a long time and this story addresses that in an excellent way, so I'm still giving it a 5.

Lots of thinking!

This is the 2nd to last Jewell novel I have devoured. It was the least compelling bc there isn’t much dialogue. She suffers from paranoia so she is constantly questioning herself. There is just her as the main character and although I enjoy Helen Duff it’s just too much. Perhaps old fashioned reading the book would be more suitable.

Slow simpering non story - I want my 15 hrs back!

The only good this about this book is that it sets up an expectation that something big is about to happen which never actually happens. The characters are selfish and annoying and the narrator, while I liked her to begin with, I started associating her with the characters and her simpering voice became increasingly grating as the characters nose dived into their separate tedious unoriginal narcissistic journeys of supposed self discovery.
I would not recommend unless you enjoy observing navel gazing as a past time.

Not as interesting as many of Jewell’s other books

Although I loved the narrator and the general storyline, I wish the book had been written with fewer words. I love most of Lisa Jewell’s books, but this one just went on and on ..

Boring

Very disappointed in this one. Lisa Jewell is one of my favorite authors but this one missed the mark.

Cheesy

Primitive predictable cheesy happily ever after book with pathetic attempts at philosophy. Time wasted really.
