Publisher's Summary

The action-packed official adaptation of Alien: Isolation and a revealing look into the lives of Ellen Ripley and her daughter, Amanda Ripley.

The product of a troubled and violent youth, Amanda Ripley is hellbent to discover what happened to her missing mother, Ellen Ripley. She accepts an assignment with a Weyland-Yutani team being sent to retrieve the Nostromo flight recorder from space station Sevastopol, which they find out of control due to a Xenomorph that was brought there with the recorder. A conspiracy unfolds, revealing ever greater threats - including an entire Xenomorph hive. Over the course of the novel, Amanda’s history is revealed beginning with her childhood. Her father Alex’s battle with alcoholism caused her mother, Ellen Ripley, to sue for divorce. Ellen was forced to take off-world assignments, ultimately leading to her assignment aboard the Nostromo. Left behind, Amanda became determined to find out what happened to her mother, learning more and more about Ellen and the events that led up to her disappearance. Along the way, Amanda develops a fast friendship with Colonial Marine Zula Hendricks (from the Alien: Defiance Dark Horse series).

Daddy Issues

I couldn't get through it. I gave up after a few hours. far too much time spent on her childhood and stepfather issues. She's a bitter, arrogant, and condescending individual. Not a fan of the narrator either.

BORING

Rarely have I encountered a protagonist that I wish had died 20 minutes in. Petulant.

Good Read

I think the narrator did a great job with the many different characters. And the story was well done, plausible escapes and encounters with the aliens. Good amount of back story to explain present characters.

Soooooo boring

I LOVE aliens and predator.
I don’t expect things to be perfect.
But this had waaay too many back flashes. Many times I couldn’t figure out if the story was past or present.

Well written and even better narration

If you liked the game you'll like this and vice versa. The narrator brings the characters to life, gives them each distinctive voices.

Cool back story info

I've played this game. Story is slightly different but pretty on point otherwise. Plus some new story and lots of back story for both Amanda Ripley and Ellen Ripley. Pretty happy with this overall.

Choose your own Alien adventure

Kind of clunky and not super-well thought-out, but plays like a fun choose-your-own-adventure story. Not much to dig into here, but an alright side-story in the Alien universe.

Wonderful story from the computer game

Truly a wonderful Alien novel, based on the computer game Alien Resurrection, this story follows Ellen Ripley's daughter as she continues the family legacy of fighting the Xenomorph. Well-fleshed-out characters and gripping action make this book a must-read for any Alien fan. Highly recommended!

Just play the game

I played Alien: Isolation and decided I'd listen, and unlike the novelizations of the films, this doesn't really add anything.
There are stories of Amanda's childhood and adult life, her terrible stepfather, and some glimpses of Ellen Ripley as a mother, but the stories aren't amazing.
If you've played Isolation, you'll feel shafted, like the story of Amanda Ripley during the Sevastapol incident isn't exactly what you went through as a player. The Struggle Amanda goes through in the novel is a fraction of what she goes through in the game.
I've never listened to a female narrator before, it's only fitting to have a female tell a females story, but I found this actor to be nasally, and her portrayel of some male characters was irritating.

Not bad if you like Lore, but not a great horror

The narrator was really great! She really captured Amanda Ripley well. The rest of the experience was... meh.

I really loved the game so I was hoping this book would be in a similar vein, but I wouldn't really count this book as a "horror." The book is less a book interpretation of the game, and more like quick recaps of the game with a lot of Amanda Riply backstory thrown in. It was nice, but wasn't what I was looking for, especially since some of my favourite parts from the game seemed to have been truncated or completely skipped over. I don't regret listening to it, but I dont think this will get a relisten. If your looking for a scary thriller audiobook in the Alien franchise I'd recommend Out of the Shadows instead.
