À propos de cet audio

Nebula Award winner, Novel, 2016.

From the editor-in-chief of io9.com, a stunning novel about the end of the world - and the beginning of our future.

Childhood friends Patricia Delfine and Laurence Armstead didn't expect to see each other again after parting ways under mysterious circumstances during high school. After all, the development of magical powers and the invention of a two-second time machine could hardly fail to alarm one's peers and families. But now they're both adults, living in the hipster mecca San Francisco, and the planet is falling apart around them.

Laurence is an engineering genius who's working with a group that aims to avert catastrophic breakdown through technological intervention into the changing global climate. Patricia is a graduate of Eltisley Maze, the hidden academy for the world's magically gifted, and works with a small band of other magicians to secretly repair the world's ever-growing ailments. Little do they realize that something bigger than either of them, something begun years ago in their youth, is determined to bring them together - to either save the world or plunge it into a new dark ages.

A deeply magical, darkly funny examination of life, love, and the apocalypse.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"Narrator Alyssa Bresnahan is so good that it's possible just to enjoy her voice and forget everything else. Luckily, this geeky, spiritual love story is strong enough to keep listeners riveted, and Bresnahan's performance is the icing on a very tasty cake." (AudioFile)

I did not finish. The story became too frustrating. I understand that this is a youth novel however the tropes are overdone: the parents too obtuse, the other children too cruel, the teachers too ignorant of the teens’ lives. The author took motivations and abilities /inabilities just a step too far….unfortunate as the premise of magic vs tech was fascinating.

Overdone situations

This is a decent YA type story that starts off nicely but falters a bit later. There is a lot of pop culture language that will quickly become dated but it will be a fun read for teenagers for a few years to come. The performance is wonderful and worth the price of a credit but if you are expecting sophisticated fantasy sci-fi you will be disappointed.

A beautifully performed story for younger readers.

Great story with an awesome reader but the audio would occasionally cut out on the reading.

Good Story

It feels like you're missing the joke all the time. Like, there's some backstory you didn't read or the editor cut out all the parts that told you what the h* is going on. Then the ending is all wrapped up in a couple convenient sentences and everything's fine. This could have been such a good story. Maybe some explanation of how magic and technology work together or a battle between the two? Well, I guess there WAS a battle but it was disjointed and didn't really explain anything.

Weird book with sudden, convenient ending

It starts out well, but sort of fizzles. no swearing in the first 1/4 of the book and then there's lots of the f-bombs. The sex scene if sort of odd.

I thought I would enjoy it more.

What lays between the lines is the true treasure written in this book. I will listen to it again

One of the best books you will ever read
