"Lazarre-White masterfully portrays people of multiple races, old and young. He also delivers Cosby's reflections on family, grief, and faith with genuine introspection and without distracting from the tense plotlines...This is a gripping, timely tale—beautifully told."—AudioFile (Earphones Award winner)

The new novel from New York Times bestselling and Los Angeles Times Book Prize-winning author S. A. Cosby, "one of the most muscular, distinctive, grab-you-by-both-ears voices in American crime fiction.”—The Washington Post.

A Black sheriff. A serial killer.

A small town ready to combust.

Titus Crown is the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, Virginia. In recent decades, quiet Charon has had only two murders. But after years of working as an FBI agent, Titus knows better than anyone that while his hometown might seem like a land of moonshine, cornbread, and honeysuckle, secrets always fester under the surface.

Then a year to the day after Titus’s election, a school teacher is killed by a former student and the student is fatally shot by Titus’s deputies. As Titus investigates the shootings, he unearths terrible crimes and a serial killer who has been hiding in plain sight, haunting the dirt lanes and woodland clearings of Charon.

With the killer’s possible connections to a local church and the town’s harrowing history weighing on him, Titus projects confidence about closing the case while concealing a painful secret from his own past. At the same time, he also has to contend with a far-right group that wants to hold a parade in celebration of the town’s Confederate history.

Charon is Titus’s home and his heart. But where faith and violence meet, there will be a reckoning.

Powerful and unforgettable, All the Sinners Bleed confirms S. A. Cosby as “one of the most muscular, distinctive, grab-you-by-both-ears voices in American crime fiction” (The Washington Post).

Horrific, topical, and highly entertaining

A well-narrated and gripping murder mystery - while not for the faint of heart, I would recommend it for anyone who likes a good whodunit or southern gothic

Great! would recommend.

This was an excellent listen. the narrator Is just awesome. It was a bit gory at times. didn't really know who the killer was, hate when you can guess it off the hop. Main character was bad ass, and one of the characters redeemed themselves. Was a bit more religious than I thought it would be, but it had a great balance.

LOVED this!

This was one of the best mysteries I’ve had the pleasure of listening to. Most books of this genre written in the last 30 years or so have disappointed. So many things (racism and micro aggression) were explained brilliantly. The family dynamic was relatable as was the loss of the main characters mother. I especially enjoyed the southern accents and could easily differentiate between the 2 races.
You will not be disappointed.

Conflicted Crime/Police Novel Lover Appreciates this Read

I inherited a love of mystery novels from my mother, but as a social worker in community, I too often see how the police narrative portrayed in these novels fails to accurately uphold the experiences of marginalized peoples, of peoples who engage in behaviour that is criminalized, and people simply working to survive. Don’t call me a liberal, because I’m not, but that’s not the point here.

I still had a few critiques of the language or narrative here, but it was so refreshing to read a crime novel that satiated my mystery novel appetite, but which also did not shy away from considering issues of power are they continue to manifest in our unfair world. This was my first S. A. Cosby novel, and I will be reading another.

Great story!

Another hit by S. A. Cosby. A reflection of the existential conflict in many parts of the USA. Narrated excellently by Adam Lazard-White.

Narration was perfect. Best all round book I have read in a long time. Right up there with John Grisham.

Great narration, great story

I love this author. Discovered when Razorblade Tears came up on Jimmy Fallon’s summer book club list. Love the narrator as well.

Visceral, gripping, thrilling and entertaining

"All the Sinners Bleed" is another visceral, fantastic, dark and atmospheric thriller that solidifies New York Times bestselling and Los Angeles Times Book Prize-winning author S. A. Cosby as “one of the most distinctive, original and entertaining storytellers in American crime fiction.

The story follows Titus Crown, the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, a small town with big secrets in Virginia, that at first sight may seem like a land of moonshine, cornbread, and honeysuckle. Although in recent decades, quiet Charon has had only two murders, a deranged and ruthless serial killer will bring a time of darkness, fear and despair for everyone living there.

Award-winning actor, director, writer, artist and audiobook narrator Adam Lazarre-White skillfully brings all the characters, their stories and this unforgettable, timely tale to life in a gripping and colorful performance. I can’t think of any other narrator who could have done a better job with this dramatic story.

"All the Sinners Bleed" picks up steam fast and doesn’t let go until the very end. An unpausable story made even better as an audiobook thanks to the masterful narration!

Cosby writes another perfect southern thriller

“The South is Christ-haunted by hypocrisy of religion”

I am a huge fan of S. A. Cosby. His books always possess gritty crimes in the small-town rural south, showcasing the ugly underbelly of the south. His protagonists are black men, well-meaning and fighting the endless fight of racism, hatred, and poverty. There’s always a high body count in his stories.

In “All the Sinners Bleed” the protagonist is Titus Crown, a Black sheriff who is a former FBI agent with a secret. One year into his tenure as sheriff there is a shooting in the town high school. A Black young man, a former student, is identified as the killer of the white teacher. When the police arrive, two deputies fire and kill the boy. Now there are 2 dead. The teacher who is the victim was beloved by all. He was a teacher who put the children first.

White officers killing a Black man, even if there are witnesses to his crime, optically looks bad. Titus is the first Black Sheriff in his County. He knows the town is racist. He knows he’s walking a political tightrope in anything he does., especially solving this crime.

Once he begins his investigation, the murder takes an unexpected turn. The teacher’s phone holds a secret file which reveal horrendous photos of torture and murder involving Black children. And it appears the Black man who killed the teacher was complicit. Titus and his deputies uncover horrifying secrets. Titus realizes there is a trio of men, quietly killing young Black children for a very long time.

Cosby has interesting themes. In this, he has gay men passing for straight, Black men passing as white, illegitimate biracial child, thieving clergy, snake-handling holy-rollers, and always xenophobia. What makes him stand out, for me is his prose. His words are beautiful. Plus, I love crime novels from interesting perspectives, and he writes from the Black perspective. His observations keen: “No place was more confused by its past or more terrified of the future than the South.”

I chose to listen to the audio, narrated by Adam Lazarre-White. His voice range is wonderful. I highly recommend the audio.

If you are uncomfortable with this book, maybe you should check out why

What a beautiful, raw story of inhumane treatment of people of color through the generations. The book was weaved with magical storytelling of events still happening today. If the storyline makes one uncomfortable, maybe one may want to take a hard look and ask Why?Such a dynamic story and so well narrated. We still have a long ways to go towards healing our sin of slavery.

A wonderful book but...

I am new to this author and strayed from my normal sci fi addiction to try this book. I read many of the rave reviews which convinced me to get it. I'm glad that I did. But.. as other reviews said, I found the constant reference to racism to be heavy handed. You couldn't listen to one chapter without having it come up 15 times. I didn't think it was necessary to be so heavy with it for the story. It seemed to be more about the message the author wanted to send. And I don't fee that I need it crammed down my throat to understand it. You would just about get sick of it, but then, because it is such a good book, it would pull you back in. It really is a wonderful book that kept me engaged and looking for opportunities to listen to it. That is how I know that I have a great book.
