Story
The Myth of Capitalism tells the story of how America has gone from an open, competitive marketplace to an economy where a few very powerful companies dominate key industries that affect our daily lives. Digital monopolies like Google, Facebook, and Amazon are gatekeepers to the digital world. Amazon is capturing almost all online shopping dollars. We have the illusion of choice, but for most critical decisions, we have only one or two companies when it comes to high speed internet, health insurance, medical care, mortgage title insurance, or even consumer goods like toothpaste.

In How to Be a Stoic, philosopher Massimo Pigliucci offers Stoicism, the ancient philosophy that inspired the great emperor Marcus Aurelius, as the best way to attain it. Stoicism is a pragmatic philosophy that teaches us to act depending on what is within our control and separate things worth getting upset about from those that are not.

Story
There are two things Trevor loves more than anything else: playing war-based video games and his great-grandfather Jacob, who is a true-blue, bona fide war hero. At the height of the war, Jacob helped liberate a small French village, and was given a hero's welcome upon his return to America. Now it's decades later, and Jacob wants to retrace the steps he took during the war - from training to invasion to the village he is said to have saved. Trevor thinks this is the coolest idea ever. But as they get to the village, Trevor discovers there's more to the story than what he's heard.

Publisher's Summary
D-Day, June 6, 1944: the most expansive military endeavor in history. No less than world cooperation would bring down Hitler and the Axis powers. And so people - and kids - across the globe lent their part. From the young US soldiers in the boats to spies in the French countryside, the coordination of thousands came together.
Alan Gratz, author of the New York Times best-selling Refugee, explores the necessity of teamwork and heroism in dismantling tyranny in this epic, yet personal, look at D-Day in time for the 75th anniversary of the operation.

The story was amazing, but the way the narrators told it made it even better. The way they told the story and the way every character's story somehow come together was sophisticated and thought out.

Wonderful!
This was one of the first books my son (9) and I listened to on Audiobooks. Lucky for us to have chosen such a great book!!! My son was intrigued the entire time (We are both WWII buffs). My absolute favorite character was Dee. My son agrees! You can’t listen/read this story without getting fully immersed in the characters’ lives. I would love for each character to have a separate book, but it’s also so interesting to see how their lives intertwine!

This was the most informative and captivating book I have ever read. Normally, I don’t write reviews for books, but this truely deserved it. This book kept me on my toes, and every time I got out of the car, I would dread it because I would have to stop the journey they were taking me on. I absolutely love how all of the characters in the book all somehow connected, and how it all tied both history, and the storyline together. Truely an amazing book.

As a middle school teacher I would recommend all students read this book to get a realistic understanding of war. The way it is presented from multiple perspectives lends to the realism and opens the door to many conversations that could otherwise be difficult to discuss.
