Before Colton Underwood captured the hearts of millions on The Bachelor, he was a goofy, socially awkward, overweight adolescent who succeeded on the football field while struggling with personal insecurities off it. An All-American gridiron hero, he was also a complex, sometimes confused, soft-hearted romantic wondering how these contradictions fit together. Old-fashioned and out of step with the swipe-right dating culture of today, he was saving the most intimate part of life for the love of his life. If only he could find her.

Story
I’ve been in this life for 50 years, been trying to work out its riddle for 42, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last 35. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

Publisher's Summary
Includes an audiobook-exclusive bonus track with Ben Higgins answering fan questions!
Are you tired of people knowing who you are but no one really knowing you?
As the star of the 20th season of The Bachelor, Ben Higgins looked like he had it all together. Instead, Ben felt dissatisfied, fearful, and deeply alone. Like so many of us, he thought of himself as the kid who never got picked for the game, the person always on the outside of the joke, the friend who knew a lot of people but was never truly known. He wondered if he mattered at all.
In Alone in Plain Sight, Ben vulnerably shares how he found authentic connection with himself, with others, and with God. As Ben helps us name our own yearning for meaning, he explores:
- ways to understand ourselves more deeply so that we are free to connect with others;
- how shared pain can bridge even the widest gaps between two very different people;
- why we must deconstruct our culture’s fairy-tale view of love;
- how the God who longs for relationship with us is the answer to our need for connection.
As Ben discovered, in a disconnected world, it is still possible to have lasting purpose and peace. You are already known. You are already loved. You are already seen. Discover how to live out how much you matter as you embrace the true meaning of your one incredible life.

Preaching
I couldn't finish because the final third was essentially a church sermon. I respect Ben and appreciate his faith, but had to stop when the preaching became overt.

More than just a pretty face
I listened to this book in two days. I absolutely loved it!! This is definitely a “self help” book more than a bachelor tell all. Ben gets very real with the stories he shares about his own life and the story of a few friends. It really opened my eyes to ways that I need to challenge myself and helped me feel brave enough to be vulnerable with God and loved ones. And also to ask the questions I need to ask in order to discover the answers I didn’t know I needed. Everybody knows Ben is good lookin. But this book showed his depth. It was inspiring, thoughtful and leaves me wanting to be more intentional with my life. Highly recommended.

Excellent Listen
Loved it! Ben is an excellent human and this shone through in his writing... I love listening to memoirs because we get the author's voice. Has a Trista Sutter vibe to it! I was hoping for more of the 'alone' insights like at the beginning and audible editors could have done better, there are some mistakes, but overall well done Ben! Now for the Bachelor tell-all!
