Publisher's Summary

Now a TV Series produced by FremantleMedia North America available internationally on Amazon, exclusively through Prime Video and starring Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, and Pablo Schreiber.

Locked behind bars for three years, Shadow did his time, quietly waiting for the day when he could return to Eagle Point, Indiana. A man no longer scared of what tomorrow might bring, all he wanted was to be with Laura, the wife he deeply loved, and start a new life.

But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow's best friend are killed in an accident. With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday. A trickster and a rogue, Wednesday seems to know more about Shadow than Shadow does himself.

Life as Wednesday's bodyguard, driver, and errand boy is far more interesting and dangerous than Shadow ever imagined. Soon Shadow learns that the past never dies...and that beneath the placid surface of everyday life a storm is brewing - an epic war for the very soul of America - and that he is standing squarely in its path.

Absolutely a fantastic book

One of the most memorable books ever! This book will keep you guessing - once I thought I knew what was going on, I realized I didn’t have a clue what was going on….but it hooks you and you can’t stop listening. An absolutely AMAZING book

An epic adventure

A truly great novel. The story weaves in and out of a marvellous adventure full of characters you genuinely care for or loathe.

Great book, but a bit of a chore to read

I love Neil Gaiman's work, and American Gods was highly recommended to me. Perhaps, with that, my expectations coloured the book poorly. I didn't enjoy a couple aspects of the book while listening to it, but once finished, it all seemed great.

Different, but better

If you're looking for an exact match to the tv series, this isn't it. This is better.

...

If you love Gaiman, you will love American Gods... and for heaven’s sake engage with the book before the tv show.
The narrator is fine, but in a cast of so many characters he lacks the range to authentically bring forth that many voices.

just excellent "road trip" novel..

submerge yourself in this book and understand the depth of characters and you will feel a great joy going through these chapters! it has filed in many gaps for me with the actual tv show. very impressed with descriptions and settings... very great story and ending.. wanting more!

Desevers a much better reader.

I enjoyed reading the book itself, but the why this guy reads it makes it sound so boring and awful. He pause for a full second or two after each line which throws off the flow of the book.

Boring

It was a boring nothing going on story. Performance below par. Waste of money really.
