Bookstore owner Aubrey Barnes likes his quiet, orderly London life, thank you very much. His shop may be struggling, his only employee is a menace, and his plumbing is one creaky pipe away from disaster, but he can handle it. Maybe. The story is great. But the fake British accent completely ruins the content. I wish it was read naturally.

I thought it was pretty cute and was easy to get through! Even though it was very predictable, I was hooked

This was a cute , light read and I really enjoyed it. It's a great listen when you are trying to decompress from a heavy read or an exhausting day. I have loved Gary Furlong's narration in every book I have listened to that he has read and this is another brilliant performance.

I didn’t enjoy this at all. The Notting Hill-style premise has potential but this fell flat. The story and writing were clunky and not well executed. The whole concept of a bookseller and an actor not fitting together because they are “different mediums” was cliche and a little immature. I was also not a fan of the voice of the reader and the way in which the text was read. It took me almost two weeks to finish it because it bored me but I had to see the purchase through. Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant this was not.

This book was recommended by Good Reads after finishing re-reading my favourite romcom, Boyfriend Material, and it really doesn’t hold a candle. The story is cute, and has potential, but it all just felt a little *too*cliched. A little too convenient. The spicy scenes are well written, but become a bit relative by story’s end. If you’re looking for some brain candy this is it.

The biggest drawback was the narration. The narrator’s British accent felt very forced, and the clipped “my” to “muh” really took me out of it. The narration given to the American character is a little too breezy, and made me feel that the character was entirely insincere during the whole story.
