It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range - what looks like "trunk music", a Mafia hit. But the LAPD's organized crime unit is curiously uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex - and much more personal.

In Los Angeles in 1988, a 16-year-old girl disappeared from her home and was later found dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. The death appeared at first to be a suicide, but some of the evidence contradicted that scenario, and detectives came to believe this was in fact a murder. Despite a by-the-book investigation, no one was ever charged.

In a life-imitates-art firestorm, a gang of masked men converged on the delivery and robbed the armored car with guns blazing. The crime was never resolved, and the young woman's murder was in the stack of unsolved-case files Bosch carried home the night he left the LAPD.

A body has been found on the overlook near Mulholland Drive. The victim, identified as Dr. Stanley Kent, has two bullet holes in the back of his head, from what looks like an execution-style shooting. LAPD detective Harry Bosch is called out to investigate. As soon as Bosch begins retracing Dr. Kent's steps, contradictions emerge. While Kent doesn't seem to have had ties to organized crime, he did have access to dangerous radioactive substances from just about every hospital in Los Angeles County.

Story
In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved. Now Bosch's ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue. Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the "black box", the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together.

Publisher's Summary
Angels Flight adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*
Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment. Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue and the characters' emotional arcs.
The New York Times best seller that inspired the new season of hit original drama series BOSCH.
Detective Harry Bosch is on a harrowing journey into a high-profile murder case - and darkness...
An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the LAPD are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are super heating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?
*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Horrible music!
I'm up to chapter 7 and the 'music' (for want of a better label) has not stopped. Constant distraction. Some people don't hear it, I guess. There are others of those who use their ears. In performances, such as TV ... movies... the editor matches the music to the scene. Here, it's just plain distracting sh*t. I hope whoever decided on this background gets to read this complaint. What could they have been thinking??
Please... no background music.

get the other version
The music added to this book is ridiculous, doesn't go with the story. I noticed there was a version without "booktrack", get that one.
The narrator reads this book like a cross between Unsolved Mysteries and a used car salesman.
I don't think I'll buy another one with this narrator. The narrator in previous books was actually really good....
Well the computer related stuff pretty off. yes it is dated, but even for the time it is off base, with incorrect terminology. Even if you take out the incorrect technical issues, the logic around that part of the story is weak, I mean why not just password protect the site instead of a ip whitelist, or why not just block non whitelisted IPs. Usually Connely doesn't have big holes like this, but he was clearly out of his element here...
Still another great Bosch book.

Terrible!
Great Bosch story, consistent with the series. However, the ambient soundtrack and the manner of story telling (deflection used) distracts from the story. Constantly sounds like an infomercial. Not the best format for an audio book.

what is that background noise?!
Really like the Bosch books and this story was one of the better ones. I thought the ending could have been more exciting and a little less obvious but overall, great bosch book. that all being said, why was there background noise and music during the reading?! Incredibly corny and unnecessary. the narrator was new, not as good as before...everyone sounded pretty much like the same character. but that background noise was borderline unbearable.

Just like someone else put it “ sounds like Bosch is a voice over actor for one of those - in a world where - movie trailers.
The narrator has no acting skills whatsoever , his voice is never on point with the message intended and the background music is awful and distracting .
With so many bad reviews , how has audible not redone it already ? You’re doing a disservice to the series

Great story. Horrible performance
I’ve listened to all the stories prior to this and have never been so annoyed by the constant background music. Can you imagine listening to 12 hours of annoying cheesy distracting background music while trying to pay attention to a story? Who in the world thought this was a good idea? I’ve heard audio books where music was used to enhance intro and exit type scenes. That was fine. Even good. But this, this was complete overkill. I didn’t hear more than 5 seconds straight in the book with no music in background. Ugh.

Ditch the soundtrack
If I wanted to watch a movie I would. I enjoy reading and listening to books because I can use my imagination without a lot of external input. I don’t mind the vocal characterizations to identify characters. But the soundtrack is way too much. It’s distracting and disruptive to my enjoyment of the story. I am going to finish this book but I doubt I can get past this. I am listening to the series in order. Unless there are versions of these audio books without soundtrack I am done with the series.
