Publisher's Summary
But tears turn to laughter when Anne and her friends move into an old cottage and an ornery black cat steals her heart. Little does Anne know that handsome Gilbert Blythe wants to win her heart, too. Suddenly, Anne must decide if she's ready for love.
What the critics say
"Fifty years after her death, her work surfaces regularly in new guises....There's no cool modern cynicism here; these stories are decidedly old-fashioned and determinedly upbeat." ( Calgary Herald)

Incongruous accents
The narrator is very annoying. This book takes place in Canada. Why does the narrator put on a SOUTHERN accent when trying to do a local dialect?!?!?! Her voice often sounds as if she is overacting and is overly earnest or wispy. She also mispronounces words. I wish I had chosen another version. L.M.Montgomery's books deserve better.

Love the book, not the reader.
I love all the Anne books, and this one especially as we really see Anne leaving her childhood behind and growing into a woman. I had looked forward to a reader's interpretation of Anne in this book - ambitious, spirited and as charming as ever.
The reader gave sweet voices to characters like Diane, but to Anne she gave the most horrible rasp! She made her sound like Milhouse from the Simpsons. When the line says, "said Anne gaily" the reader reads it like Anne said it so sadly! The most charitable way I can say it is that I do not think this reader "gets" Anne.
Most shocking is that this made it all the way through production and to sale without someone involved saying something! It is not that the reader does not have a pleasant voice. Her normal narration was just fine. But it's like there is a voice that Anne SHOULD have in everyone's head...and she just did the complete opposite!
Very disappointing!

awful overacting and reading!!!!!
I truly regret getting this version. The reader over-dramatizes when she gives Anne a voice. She drags her speech in a terrible attempt to sound ethereal and delicate. It's uber annoying. Anne is a vivacious character who is 18 years old at the start of this book. The reader makes her sound like she's some languid depressed 40 year old fairy forced to live in gremlin world.AWFUL! I hate that I wasted my money. I can't stand listening to her and so I will delete this version and purchase another. Personally, I dont think they should sell this version at all. Very disappointed.

Great book, awful reader
I love this book but the reader must know nothing about Canada. She did some awful accents for some of the people, a sort of cross between a southern accent and a bad french accent. I had to turn it down just to get through those bits. Does not sound like anyone I have ever heard from P.E.I. or Nova Scotia.

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
The only thing that gave this book a modicum of interest is the narrator. Otherwise it is the schizophrenic ramblings of a lady.

Love every minute.
This has always been a favorite story of mine. Since I was a kid I remember sitting in the living room with my mother watching these movies over and over again reading the book, no matter how different it was from the movie still warmed my heart and brought back memories of my childhood.
