Publisher's Summary
Return to New York Times best-selling author Nalini Singh's darkly passionate Guild Hunter world, where human-turned-angel Elena Deveraux, consort to Archangel Raphael, faces a new challenge that threatens the balance of the world.
Wings of silver. Wings of blue. Mortal heart. Broken dreams. Shatter. Shatter. Shatter. A sundering. A grave. I see the end. I see....
The world is in chaos as the power surge of the Cascade rises to a devastating crescendo. In furiously resisting its attempts to turn Elena into a vessel for Raphael's power, Elena and her archangel are irrevocably changed...far beyond the prophecy of a cursed Ancient.
At the same time, violent and eerie events around the world threaten to wipe out entire populations. And in the Archangel Lijuan's former territory, an unnatural fog weaves through the land, leaving only a bone-chilling silence in its wake. Soon it becomes clear that even the archangels are not immune to this deadly evil.
This time, even the combined power of the Cadre may not be enough....
This war could end them all.

I hate the narrator's voice
She sounds like an elderly Holly Hunter, quavering at random points, and the accents used are a random mishmash of what a Midwestern American thinks a "European" accent would sound like.

A story of war, love, honor, sacrifice and madness
This was well worth the wait for it to come out. If this is the finale of the guild hunter series, it will have been an amazing way to finish it. So many things happening that it was hard to keep up at times, so I had to take a break from reading it. It truly captured the horrors of wars and the madness of an angel with a god complex. It shows how honor and sacrifice can make a difference when it comes to war and to peace.
I really hope this isn’t the end, but a new beginning for the series to go down a different path.
The narrator also did an amazing job. It cannot have been an easy job doing this long book and in a way that adds to the book.

Just wow!
Read the previous books first to get the full impact! Can we say creative? The new stories and twists that Ms Singh comes up with are just amazing.
In this installment, we find out WHY there are periodic Cascades, and why battle is unavoidable.
In order to stop the Cascade from warping them, Raphael bursts the chrysalis to free himself and Elena. This early release leaves their metamorphosis unfinished and leads to unexpected additional changes popping up. However, with Raphael’s sharing of their hearts, he and Elena are even more closely linked together. We get more information about the function of the Legion, and a bit of Montgomery’s history that made me smile. And we find out who Illium’s father is, and why the Hummingbird’s spirit was dimmed.
The Cadre have taken turns flying over China, but still can’t truly protect the people from the Black Death. New York and Raphael’s people have planned and trained for war, knowing that Lijuan is not dead. 3 more Ancients awaken, which could be a problem for the Cadre, but they recognize the threat that is Lijuan and choose to help. It is Cassandra’s interest in her prophecy, Elena, that keeps her communicating periodically with information.
When Lijuan’s attack on NY begins, the situation looks dire indeed. lt is immediately clear that she has planned well, in secret, and is now completely ignoring all rules. It takes all the Cadre, and more, along with their combined Cascade gifts, to fend off the forces of the Archangel of Death.
Great writing that pulls you into the horror and tension, without the gory nastiness. And she makes you feel Raphael and Elena’s Love and commitment without feeling the limitations of a “romance novel”. I’m so glad that Ms Singh advised in her newsletter that she has contracted for more books in this series.
Eyre does an amazing job of narration.

It's On!
I am a huge fan of the Guild Hunter's series. I've read some hits and some near misses in the series but thru it all, Singh has been consistently building to the epic battle that ensues in Archangel's War. When the bad guy is an Archangel with endless power, who can not be defeated, who is poised to reign terror down on the world, who is pure darkness and death, you feel all hope is lost. All hope is lost. I do love how the anticipation of this final battle was interwoven into the previous installments. Up until book 12, I kept thinking, this is it for at least some of the Cadre. SPOILER****
******************************
Some of the Cadre go down in this battle which is quite sad. Ancients rose from sleep and fell at the vicious hands of the Archangel of China, self proclaimed Goddess of Death. I was very pleased with the war and how the story was told. However at times, I felt like it went on a bit long. At the same time, I felt that if the war content were any less, I would miss out on some of the fine details that truly added to the story, to the characters, to the end game. I'm happy that so many things were resolved. Questions I'd had were answered - like how Gian abandoned Illium and the Hummingbird ; and how it destroyed her. I'm so happy to have finally met Cassandra. She's been around a long time and it was so great to get a description of her and a glimpse of her power. Michaela turned out to have a heart and a baby! Charisemnon is gone - Yay! And it was awesome to have The Seven together again; Fighting for their Sire & his Consort, for their City. It was a beautiful story. What's next?!
I listened to the Audio book and did not like the narrator, Justin Eyre. The voices weren't defined enough. I did not like her inflections, tones, accents, and she sounded too breathy toward the end of her sentences. It was off putting initially but I eventually settled into the story and paid no attention to those irritants.

Another Epic Read
REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Kelly
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 5+
Sometimes you read a book and just have no idea how to write a spoiler free review (long dramatic sigh). So here it goes.
Archangel’s War picks up shortly after the major cliffhanger of Archangel’s Prophecy (book 11, I would highly, highly suggest reading this series in order). We learn the fate of Elena and Raphael and nothing will ever be the same. There is an epic battle with Lijuan for the future of the world. Not everyone will survive this battle.
I loved this book. I love this series. I love that Nalini has that ability to write such amazing characters that I get way to invested in. Raphael and Elena are amazing together even after 12 books I do not get tired of seeing these two grow.
I listened to this book on audio and love every second of Justine Eyre reading to me. I love her talented voice and ability to make each and every character their own. I look forward to her reading me the next books.
I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. Fingers crossed that it is Illium or Aodhan or Illium and Aodhan :D.
Disclaimer:
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Penguin Random house in exchange for an honest review. I also purchased a copy of this audiobook and this review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Ooof!
Roof! absolutely LOVE this entire series! This book has been just as good, but the war....MERCY!....it is almost painful to get through. I have had to stop several times because I was/am getting EXTREMELY frustrated. I do not want to miss anything however, so I am hanging in here. I wanted to wait till the end to review this, and I will update if anything changes, but my frustration with the length of this war is ridiculous! The writing and story line is still AMAZING, but DAG GONE! This war should be over by now. If I didnt love this series as much as I do I would have thrown in the towel and asked for a refund by now. I apologize but I know I will not be the only one with this issue. If you've read this series from the beginning I highly recommend getting this book because it does bring a lot of thing to a close (and I'm not even done yet), but you MUST read the series in order to appreciate this book. I love the narrator as well.

Trite, Sappy, Disappointed
Every author writing a mystical type novel always disappoints me in the end. Maybe it’s because they only know how to touch on the surface of magical and not give more that’s mysterious and delicious- and dangerous- as promised.
Elena and Rafael are all sappy and unbelievably doting. I can’t stand Elena being jealous…that concept is ridiculous. She know she’s unique and loved so being angry at someone for hitting on Raphael seems so trite.
Also there’s one scene after they just woke up and Rafael is dealing with what’s been going on in his city while he slept/ fought in the chrysalis— and Elena asks him to go fetch her blanket. I feel like this is so stupid and shows no respect. Not only do they have the Butler, but I’m sure there’s plenty of staff could go get her damn blanket. Or even Raphael could’ve had someone fetch it for him and then he bring it to her if you want to get cuddly.
Little things like that made me crazy.
I love her psy-changeling series more because each one is very different- deep-

It was awesome.
I’d waited patiently for Archangel’s War to be released and it was so worth it. The book was awesome. I laughed, I cried and a I cursed the Archangel of China. But mostly my love of the two main characters just grew and grew. I highly recommend this book. You will not be let down. And now I want more...

Hm
I love Nalini Singh, but this was a little over the top for me. It seemed never-ending. I feel like the third Hobbit movie was a ridiculous battle, but this one kept it coming just as much, if not more. I know it's very clear in the title that this is WAR, but some parts just made me roll my eyes.
I'll definitely read more of her stuff, I'm just not a huge fan of this one.

Not the best - Sorry to say
I'm a huge guild hunter fan but I was disappointed with this last book. I listen to the first 10 books over and over but something just seems to be missing in the new versions. Maybe it is just the story is progressing slower or the introduction of new characters but I feel like it was incomplete. I hoping the next book arrives soon and is back to the quality of the earlier books.
