Publisher's Summary

Talia could scarcely believe that she had finally earned the rank of full Herald. Though this seemed like the fulfillment of all her dreams, it also meant she would face trials far greater than those she had previously survived.

For now, Talia must ride forth to patrol the kingdom of Valdemar, dispensing Herald's justice throughout the land.

But in this realm beset by dangerous unrest, enforcing her rulings will require all the courage and skill Talia could command - for if she misuses her own special powers, both she and Valdemar will pay the price.

amazing character development

This might be my favourite Mercedes Lackey Book or perhaps I'd tie it with the first in this series and the first and third Mage Wars books; it depends on my mood. It will always hold a special place in my heart. That said, it is mostly about developing Talia and Kris as characters and exploring Talia's power. There is action, but MINOR SPOILER the action doesn't really lead to a final destination found in this book so it will frustratrate some readers a lot. SPOILER OVER The primary conflict is internal rather than external. It does also do a lot of build-up to book 3, though, so I wouldn't recommend skipping ahead to those who have not read it before.

Enjoyable - spoilers

Story line is enjoyable and interesting, but at the same time, felt like it wasn't really going anywhere.

Performance from Christa Lewis was superb, just as enjoyable as the first book she narrated in Queen's Own my Mercedes Lacky.

Most memorable moment: when Chris and Talia saved the villiage from the raiders, pretty intense.

But I must say, with Chris and Talia being stuck at the way station, took up too much of the storyline in my opinion.

Love the series and writer, excellent narrator

You won't miss if you choose this trilogy to read, especially if you're familiar with Mercedes Lackey's writing. In addition, it was an absolute win for us to have Christa Lewis as a narrator - she is solid gold in our books (literally and figuratively)!
