About this listen

When the nouveau-riche Peterkins invite an artistic couple to live and work in a disused wing of their country home, they unknowingly craft a cocktail of conflict, tension, and deceit.

This delightful social comedy is told from the perspective of Lancaster, the household's rigidly inhibited butler, who is torn between his principles of professional detachment and his love for the Peterkins.

It makes for light, attractive reading

You can tell the author throughly enjoys the English language. I do love words (they are very lovable), but I never can make them say what I mean to. Hebbert has no such limitations.

Fantastic

A light and hilarious story, written with the kind of wit, charm and wordplay I enjoy so much. Well written and well read.

Charming and funny

“Charming” is an excellent word to describe this story— the kind of book you can listen to when you you need something that is fun without being frivolous and witty without being cynical.

Hilarious + Charming

10/10! Listened to it without pause, laughed out loud, and was throughly disappointed to come face to face with the last sentence.

Just. So. Fun.

I binged through art & artifice very quickly - it was an absolute blast, and an extremely satisfying read. The characters are well written, the wit and British dryness is SO well done. This better become a series.
