Chicago, Illinois 2013. When Cress Taylor starts receiving anonymous threats, the successful novelist feels her world crashing down. Max Grant turns up at a book signing and wants to renew their fleeting acquaintance. Is the timing coincidental or suspicious? Should she fall into his arms or run like hell? Then the plagiarism accusations start.
A former spy now working for a global security company, Max Grant has always steered clear of relationships—until now. When he sees Cress in a TV interview, his curiosity ignites. Will the spark he felt 20 years ago burst into flame? Cress is a magnet he can’t resist. As threats escalate to physical danger, Max feels driven to protect Cress. They must learn to work together if they want to stop her nemesis and find their happy ending.

Could not listen to their “Separate bedroom” or “couch/floor” BS any longer.
All of it was unrealistic and annoying.
MMC did a good job with the various accents. The female main character is pretty whiny sounding though.
This was extremely far fetched with zero intimacy

The characters are in their 40’s but it feels like the FMC is a 14 year old virgin . Unfortunately, she was unlikeable to me & very immature for a 46 year old.
The storyline has potential & Jason Clark (male narrator) is FABULOUS, but…
I couldn’t get past the writing style. It kept pulling me out the story. In my opinion, too much emphasis placed is on details that don’t add to the story, making it sound superficially pretentious (how many luxury items can I name in one novel?). Is it a romantic suspense? A cookbook? A luxury car magazine? A bar tender’s handbook. A history textbook? I’m so confused.
Actual emotions, feelings & events pertaining to character & story evolution are choppy & abrupt. I frequently had to go back because all of a sudden, the couple cuddling on a couch were outside, falling in the mud. It’s difficult to feel the feels along with the characters due to all of this suddenness.
Also, too much vomiting for my liking.
Not for me. Had to DNF & I never DNF.
