Publisher's Summary

When Jennifer arrived at Madame Chic's Parisian apartment as a foreign exchange student, Madame Chic took her under her wing and tutored her in the secrets of how the French elevate the little things in life to the art of living. Years later Jennifer was back in California with a husband, two young daughters, a dog, and her first home. She began to think about Madame Chic's home - how the breakfast table was set beautifully the night before, the music that always played in the background, and the calm of Madame and Monsieur Chic's ritual cocktail hour together. Jennifer wanted that life. She decided to see what would happen if she didn't perform her chores impatiently or mindlessly...and could live like Madame Chic.

At Home with Madame Chic reveals the secrets to having a happy, fulfilling, and passionate life at home. Jennifer explains the morning send-off need not be chaotic, it's possible to look stylish with minimal time and effort, a little forethought makes it possible to serve a home-cooked dinner every night, and details like music and scented candles can set the tone for the whole family's evening.

Sounds like a robot.

What did you like best about At Home with Madame Chic? What did you like least?

I really like the points that this author was making. A more formal, European lifestyle with more attention paid to good food, an organized home and planning are things I would love to here more about. But 3 hrs in to this 4 hr book I can not listen to this narration anymore. I'm pretty sure it's just a computer generated version of Siri reading. It's comically bad.

Would you recommend At Home with Madame Chic to your friends? Why or why not?

I can not recommend the audio version.

How could the performance have been better?

I've heard the author speak on her youtube videos. She could have narrated this herself 1000 times better.

life-changing!!

Jennifer Scott, writes in such a way, that, although the information given may require major transformations ( at least in the way I personally live). The rhetoric is not overwhelming. Nor, is the information given in a way that is degrading to the person you are right now. She is inspiring! I have listened to this audio-book 3 times! I am excited to use her tips and am trying to develop my own "je ne sais quois". The people around me have already noticed a difference in me! This is my most favorite self-help book ever!

Reminds you of things you already know

Would you consider the audio edition of At Home with Madame Chic to be better than the print version?

The audio is really terrible, honestly. I cannot STAND the narrator's voice at all. It's obnoxious and ridiculously slow. And there are things to go hunt for on a site which I always prefer to avoid.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jennifer L. Scott? Why or why not?

The content of the book is fine. It's nothing earth-shattering and really mostly things we all know but don't always do. I would hope that since she has several other books, some of them are at least more informative or useful. This book was benign and didn't really leave me feeling strongly one way or another about the author.

What didn’t you like about Amy Rubinate’s performance?

The narrator's voice is horrible. Absolutely horrible. This is not a suitable voice for narrating a book. Too slow. There's just something about her voice that's obnoxious and painful to listen to. I think she's trying to sound sultry and sophisticated but she just sounds strange and annoying and pretentious. Her voice really is so terrible that even if she were the most wonderful person in the world and we were friends, she would be the last person I'd want to get together with for a chat over coffee. I really don't buy that this is anyone's real, everyday voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A film would be a total waste of time. Maybe a series of YouTube videos: "How to be more pretentious than all the other mom's in the drop-off line"

Any additional comments?

I'd probably have a more positive view of the book and the author if the narrator weren't so grating and intolerable.

Tres chic

At Home with Madame Chic is full of great practical tips to create a home that you love, your children love, and that is intentional and filled with peace and class. I would recommend this book to any mom who is looking to have a less frenzied life and the ability to enjoy each moment.

Good book, lazy narrator.

Would be better if the narrator could pronounce the foreign words she uses. Unfortunately, she didn't take the time to do her homework and find out. I laugh out loud sometimes at her ridiculous pronunciation.

Wonderful

I loved the books information as well as the recitation of it. I often found myself in agreement with a lot of what Jennifer had written. It is a book not only for women with children/small children, but also inclusive of housewives who are often at a loss of self identity and being overwhelmed with no one to understand them.

motivating, horrid narrator

I really found the information in this book to be life altering. I'm a new stay at home mom and have been grossly struggling to motivate myself to keep house. I was finding it so boring and monotonous, it was barely happening. The Way everything is explained is very relatable and realistic. I love the French way of living that's compared; the European lifestyle has always been so appealing to me and now I know why. all this being said, if the content wasnt so good and had I not needed so much help, I would not have made it past the first chapter. the narration was horrendous. the woman sounds exactly like my GPS narrator. in fact, if her name wasn't specified as being the narrator, I'd think they used a robot instead of an actual person. the cadence is very unnatural and at the end of every sentence her voice drops off. so annoying. it's so bad I feel this should be re-recorded by Jennifer ikeda or someone else who will do the author's excellent work some justice.
