Publisher's Summary

A mysterious grimoire. A marriage full of dark secrets. A history sculpted by a quartet of ancient sister witches.

For 300 years, Sister Autumn has incited wars, burnt villages, killed kings, and released plagues at the bidding of the grimoire. Meanwhile, her Sister Winter, Sister Spring, and Sister Summer have brought forth only peace.

When an order from the grimoire sends Agatha to the Kingdom of Merveille, she already anticipates the worst. Unless she wants to face the wrath of the Goddess, Agatha must keep her head down and do as she's commanded.

But when the grimoire orders her to marry a pompous prince and play the role of a peasant "accepted" by vicious aristocrats, she finds herself at the center of a war between the classes and an age-old prophecy.

Within the court, many players harbor dark secrets—including her new husband. With her newfound influence, Agatha joins forces with the city's blacklisted in order to blur the lines between the common man and the elite, unravel the mysteries in her marriage, and decide once and for all if she will defy the grimoire and face the brutal consequences.

As secrets unfold, will Agatha continue to slay on behalf of the grimoire, or forge an uncharted history with her unlikely allies?

So much potential

This book has potential to be the great kick off of the series. The first part was perfectly autumnal and spooky and cozy. Then it lagged. Then it was a bit confusing and just as it picked up we got the TBC.

A Magical Experience

I'm not ashamed to admit that I have multiple formats of this dark beauty but the audio may be my favourite!

I don't think I can properly do it justice but I will try.

Narration:

Perfection *Chef's kiss

The cast, particularly "Aggie" sounded exactly like the character should sound like. Her voice captured our favourite witch's sharp wit, irreverence and intelligence exceptionally well. She truly captivated!

Grim was well, Grim. His Smooth, French accented tones were the perfect match to Aggie 😏

Overall, the story was enchanting, captivating and exceptionally well written. I was instantly transported to this world of magic and intrigue and I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

Final Thoughts:

There was something about it that actually reminded me a little bit of Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco and perhaps this was just because I had listed to that audiobook too. Something about the gothic/ victorian sound and strong female main character in Audrey Rose.

That said, Audrey is no Agatha and I enjoyed Autumn of the Grimoire so much more!

I rate it 5 adorable Mabons out of 5 and wholly recommend it! It's a magic experience!
